Sorry for my bad english but :

Now Frank Black Francis hit the stores, reviewers start their work. Well, it’s not really a new Frank Black album has it have only Pixies tracks on it. Rock critics can do their job easily, comparing these versions to originals, speaking of the actual context of the Pixies. They can say whatever they want, I believe they allready knew the songs, they can like the Two Pale Boys stuff or not, it’s just a matter of taste, I don’t really care.

What’s annoying it’s the review of Frank post-Pixies songs, and they’ll come soon with Honeycomb and the catholics B-sides out next year.

The main problem with Frank's reviews it's that they're very often made by the wrong persons. I mean, from the past 5 years (since Cult Of Ray), 80% of the journalists used each new record as an excuse to say how the Pixies were cool and how they would love to see them reunite. Most of these cool people who loved the Pixies in late 80's where into Electro-shit or unlistenable indie shit in the 90's and now they like Disco-punk, Rock n' Roll revival, ect. Most of them are "dedicated followers of fashion". I can clearly imagine them saying "Hey, we've received the promo kit from the ex-Pixies frontman, who wants to review it?". The guy gives 30 minutes to the CD, skip half of the songs, read some past reviews, and write the same thing again and again. When FB&C’s came out, it was a live on two track raw album of rock n’ roll, and who was topping charts in late 90’s ? Bjork , Prodigy , Daft Punk , Air , Marylin Manson ,… . The reviews are made by people who don’t like FB current style. Am I gonna talk about rap, techno or jazz ? No because I don’t have any reference.

If I was in a record company I would try to promote Frank's work at people not familiar to Pixies. I know it’s gonna be hard because it would mean to sell it as a new artist, but you can’t say how good Honeycomb is by comparing it with Pixies music. It’s pointless. The journalists that should review FB work should be people that like Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Bowie,Iggy Pop, ..., mainly people who knows what it is to follow an artist that has a long carrier.

I just hope Honeycomb will receive the good reviews it deserves.

So you have no point of reference, Donny.
