WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW! This, my third and final Pixies show of the week was by far, hands down, the greatest one yet, and dare I say the greatest gig I've ever been to! The band was absolutely on fire and the chemistry and vibe was amazing; as well as the setlist, which I wrote down but can't find at the moment. What an awesome show! It was truly a surreal experience! A few highlights: Joey on Vamos--he did the regular stuff with the pedals as well as the Jeopardy solo, and Dave caught the drumstick! Blown Away--excellent song and I'm glad I got to see them play it. I don't know if he was a fan or not, but I noticed the usher really getting into the show, which was cool to see. There was a three-song encore; the audience went absolutely crazy before the encore, probably the loudest I've ever heard an audience, and it was well deserved. What a night! SUCH an improvement over last night.

I think my friend may have taken the setlist home with him, but I'll try to get it back so I can post it. I remember one interesting thing they did, which was play the first verse of Nimrod's Son, then the Holiday song, then the rest of Nimrod's Son.
I'm pretty positive they did not play Break My Body; in fact, I'm 100% positive they did not.

Yeah, that was badass. I was confused at first, when they went into the Holiday Song without finishing Nimrod's Son... then I was like "Ooohhhh!!" =)
I thought "Vamos" was better at Coachella though. Something was different about the feedback last night, it just didn't seem "right". But you know, that's nit-picking. I couldn't have asked for a better set list!
What a great show! |

hmm...I still don't know if I agree with this. We'll just have to wait for that setlist, I guess.

On the Pixiesmusic board there was a link to a review that suggested Kim was not feeling well and that Frank and Joe kept going over to check on her throughout the night. Did you guys get that impression at the show? I hope her throat is still not giving her trouble. |

I noticed she was standing by Dave most of the time, as opposed to being up front. I didn't get the impression that she wasn't feeling well. She and Frank were talking to each other and laughing a lot. I don't know...

Here's the quote, by the way.
"Deal was a strange creature the whole show. She didn't speak to the crowd like normal. That was left to Black, who usually says nothing. It was a nice surprise to see him making silly small talk and what not. Deal played next to the drum riser the whole show and didn't approach the mic unless she had vocal duties. Santiago and Black approached her once each as if to console her and check on her, so hopefully she was ok."

That sounds like it may be referring to the Wednesday show, because Frank didn't say a word to the crowd on Thursday, but he was a little more chattythan usual, if I remember correctly, on Wednesday

Hey.
I respect everyone's opinion, but I really have to disagree on the basic consensus that Wednesday night was an 'off' night.
And the crowd in my area of the theater (left orch, row KK or something) were not nearly as into it as the night before, when I was in center orchestra.
Thursday was incredible, however. I was listening to Planet of Sound on a boot before the show, and they ripped into the most vicious version of it that I could ever ask for!
Joey did the Jeopardy thing in the solo, and I don't remember him doing it the first night for Vamos.
I definitely agree that the band were completely on for this night as well, however.
Kim did speak to the crowd, and even asked if anybody was there the night before. I definitely tried to let her know as best I could from the back.
Kim's voice was a little more out front this show, and the harmonies were amazing.
I very much appreciate the fact that both nights had varying sets, and am extrmemly grateful to have been able to get into both.
Again I beg: If anyone taped these nights, PLEASE email me. allroy1@hotmail.com
Will trade, buy, beg, etc.
Thanks.

I heard Frank isan't signing anything, my friend found this out by trying to get him to sign my copy of Doolittle LP and he said "you're not gonna sign this are you?" and frank just giggled |

At the end of the show, before the encore when they were waving to everyone, someone handed Joey a CD and each member signed it, including Frank, so I would say that's not true.

Did anyone remeber which song it was that they did sorta half-speed for at least MOST of? And it wasn't Wave of Mutilation. I think it was something from Come on pilgrim, but am I not sure!!
Or maybe was it the first night? I think it was this night!!

It was Nimrod's Son.... and I saw them do this slow version at Coachella too. Although it was pretty damn awesome in Atlanta when they went from Nimrod -> Holiday -> Nimrod. |

oh hell yeah -- that into-out of-into thing is sweet. And those songs seem to somehow go together really well.
I was so gratified that it wasn't simply a bang-it-out concert, they really got into what they were doing even though they've been doing it for months now. And for me, who's never seen them play live before (worst aspect of the childhood musical experience! it was always a school night in the 80s/90s!) it was just magical to see the small almost tossed-away endings of some songs just reach s kind of divine vibration (I'm thinking of the ending of Here comes your man, and a few other strange melodic interludes that the pixies are wont to include).
SHIVERS, man. Shivers.

I'm pretty sure they played Wave of Mutilation both ways. Uptempo in the set, UK Surf in the encore. I think they opened with Is She Weird. Anybody else remember?
One of the three greatest concerts I've ever seen! |

That sounds right.
I wish somebody who wrote down the set list would post it. I just wrote them down after the show in no particular order, and then just grouped them by album for the hell of it.
