The reason for the Beatles initial clean cut was their manager. When they were playing the Liverpool and Hamburg scenes they would wear leather jackets and have unkempt locks. He made the wear suits and mop-tops in order to get a major record deal (amaizingly they had been refused by a couple even though they had released some promising EPs). Then, around 1967 or so manager died of an overdose. Not only did their appearance disintegrate but frictions started to appear regarding creative input and directions, hence the split in 70.
The Medly ending in Abbey Road is probably the best thing someone has EVER put down on a recording. Its brilliant!
I agree with those who say after Rubber Soul the Beatles just went to a different world musically. Revolver is my favorite ablum, if I have to pick one.
It's weird, because Revolver is consistently mentioned as a favorite Beatles record, and I got nothing against Revolver, but it's definitely not one of the first albums that comes to mind when I think of the Beatles. I'm more of a Rubber Soul guy, though I'd say that the White Album is my favorite. I'm pretty much a fan of all of the Beatles albums, though. The early stuff is awesome, with all those weird chords and awesome harmonies. It's kickass pop music.
