cute link for ppl: http://www3.telus.net/jefmil/stairwaybackwards.htm
Frank seems to like cryptic things. Is there any backmasking going on with Frank or the Pixies' albums? Has anyone bothered to listen to them backwards?
Of course if you want to argue that the Pixies had to be in league with God herself, I won't argue.
hmmm, Pixies are little pagan creatures, right?

Interesting thought. Haven't listened to them backwards myself. My suspicion is that he takes a more academically-mischievous route to his puzzles, but I wouldn't put it past him to backmask at all.
hmmm. Might have to run though a few songs -any suggestions for the most likely candidates?

I'd thought of starting with his solo albums. I'm thinking of the deliberate "Congratulations you have found the secret message" type of thing rather than satanic voices, so the two-track albums are unlikely candidates. Which of his aren't two-track?
The only solo one I have is "The Cult of Ray". After that, Trompe, Bossanova and Doolittle are worth a look. Let me know which ones you go through, I'll start with TCOR then Trompe. |

I've gone through TCOR, Franks rocks in reverse too btw ;) Only one hit and it's a stretch.
Dance War: When reversed the lyrics "Slamming in this pit" sound vaguely like "There isn't any message."
Have a listen. |

I'm sure the Queen thing is a real hidden message
but some other things don't sound on purpose to me

Well hec,
That was one I believe in I mean it's too obvious especially because what you hear when you play it normally is jibberish.
I don't believe in the John Lennon and Yoko Ono though I Shot John Lennon seems too farfetched

That's hilarious!
Sometime this weekend I'm on the hunt. How many songs did you go through before finding this? Did you sift through and pick promising ones, or did you just play the whole album backwards?

Thanks for the link!!! I always get scared with that stuff. Maybe it's because when I was a little kid I was fan of this brazilian tv show called ''el show de xuxa'' xuxa was a girl (a very hot girl) who sang for the kids but if you put her tape on backwards you could heard this: ''el diablo es magnifico'' (the devil is wonderful) and I really did hear it!!! it was very scary since I was just 7-8 years old. Oh yeah I agree about the Queen one, it sounds pretty clear. |

Hey ObfuscateByWill, you just mean the link right? Not the audio? Have people here searched the pixies/frank/catholics already?
It was the first song I did apl4eris, D for Dance, so the first song in the folder. I went through the whole album. I'll do Trompe today.

Trompe has two but they're figments of my imagination I'm sure, and stupid. If people want to I'll post the audio. Anyway, they are:
Distance equals rate times time: "We got no atmosphere" = "I was stung by one like you."
Lovely Day: "They got one leaving today" = "Send the wheel to the wagon." wtf? |

I'd love to hear them!
I haven't had a chance to try finding them yet. I have access to the software I need on my hubby's pc now, so I'm going to see what I can find. What software are you using illusion dog?

You think? I've been waiting for Frank to appear and explain the back-story for each one since I started the thread. I sure hope you didn't scare him off. Let us now ponder the meaning of the wheel... the wagon also. |

why would i have scared him off?
it's just my opinion that i don't think he'd go that far out of his way to achieve that for a backwards lyric.
i also think the Stairway To Heaven one is silly.
"there was a little toolshed where he made us suffer, sad satan"
which toolshed?

hmm i guess certain smilies are needed round here.. *runs with it instead*
It's so obviously deliberate. Singing backwards and forwards with meaning is even taught at Julliard. You know Frank could do that sort of thing in real time if he wanted. |

The little one, of course. ()
I don't really hear the "wheel to the wagon" one at all, but "I was stung by one like you" sounds pretty clear.
It also follows with his song lyrics lexicon of bees and stinging (Jainism- from Jaina Blues and a link in his own profile at one time/Honey/Bees/Honeycomb).
Definitely interesting.

if it's obviously deliberate then why are there differing opinions?

Because your powers of deduction are flawed.
I believe it was the great Ms. Kim Deal who once said, "Floop's powers of deduction are flawed. Flawed." The she screamed something about Boise. |

I'm just messing with you floop. My last three posts were tongue-in-cheek. I'm was hoping to find the type of message that gets added in a music studio, like Prince did, reversed audio camouflaged as distortion. I'm not taking these "satanic voices" things serious, they're fun though.
I first heard "There isn't any message" as "Here's an inny message", maybe Franks belly-button writes his songs, I dunno. Anyway the important bit seems to be that the last few words are clear. The start of the line only needs to vaguely match. I think it's just the power of suggestion. However the length of the Stairway one is hard to explain.

I did Doolittle. There's two. The first is a stupid/funny one:
Crackity Jones: "La muneca." = "I'm a zulu."
... which is especially lame when you put it next to this one.
Dead: "I can't think of nothing." = "They've come to get me."
I don't know what to say...martians, holy-crap, what else? |

I heard different. Kim was still smoking when the assassination attempt was made. Her super-stoner-hearing allowed her to impale Kath on a mic stand in a last second act of self defense. It's actually Kim who replaced Keener. I can't believe you thought Kath could kick Kim's ass. I thought Kim was great in the movie Simone by the way.
I fully expected to hear that last clip as distortion when I reversed it back to normal. It was clear on the first hearing. The lines kinda superfluous too. It's the only one that has the potential to be deliberate I think. *puts on my tin-foil hat... with tin-foil thor-pixie wings* |
