Today's random song of the day is Palace of the Brine.
What do you think of it?
lyrics In a place they say is dead In the lake that's like an ocean I count about a billion head All the time there's a motion Palace of the brine I saw the cloning Of the famous family I heard the droning In the shrine of the sea-monkey Palace of the brine Beneath reflections in the fountain The starry sky and Utah mountains They are swimming happily Can't you see A life that's so sublime Palace of the brine

Definitely a fave off of Trompe.
I love the vivid imagery... The guitars are raunchy on it, just the way I like em. This song is the shit. Short and sweet (a Pixies staple) |

For years I thought it was "How to say goodbye". Then I read the title.

Least favorite song on Trompe Le Monde. Except maybe "The Navajo Know"

The lyrics of the song are great, they're so obscure. Imagery is a good word when describing the lyrics, they provoke strange thoughts, this would have to be one of those song that Black Francis would say the lyrics don't really mean anything, they're just sounds, but left up to the interpreter to decide what their meaning is...
I thought is "How to Say Goodbye" too for sometime
I also thought from Cult of Ray
"mountain rock your tomato"
"melting rock into metal"

This is a cool song, especially the "beneath reflections in the fountain" verse. It's about brine shrimp, right?

Yeah, I do think it's about shrimp, and unerwater life. But it is definitely about The Great Salt Lake in Utah, being that it's the only salt water lake near the "starry skies and Utah mountains". I was hoping they'd make an exception to their standard setlist and play this along with The Happening("driving doing nothin' on the shores of Great Salt Lake")at the Salt Lake City show last week, but no dice. |

I really like this one, I even prefer it to Letter To Memphis, I really like the BBC version too. Like the idea of putting it right before Memphis in the tracklist of the album.

Alright James, but how can we get hold of these boots? Are they factory pressed or just CD-Rs? |

Easier said than done, i know!
They are both radio shows & are original silver releases by a fantastic label called Swingin' Pig, reknowned for only releasing the best quality recordings, check out this link for the tracklists http://dag.wieers.com/debaser/bootlegs/
I waited for 'em on Ebay. A CDR copy of 'Subbacultcha' (Leysin Festival, Switzerland 91) showed up first, & then i waited AGES for 'Gone to Heaven'(LA 22/12/91) to show up & it turned out ot be the original silver which i was well chuffed about. U can maybe make an appeal to a generous soul on the trades page for someone to burn u a copy of each but u might be waiting a while, i'd do em like a shot for you but i don't have the equipment. |

There's this weird castle-shaped building on the salt flats. When I was driving cross country in around 1994, we stopped by the flats outside of Salt Lake City to check it out, and I saw that building. Then I saw the little pools of water that had brine shrimp in them (they are "sea monkies" - they dry out and just look like powder, but they survive and come back to life when they come into contact with water).
So, I discovered the actual "Palace of the Brine" - for that must be what it is. I was tickled when I figured out that that's what the song was about.
The "castle" was kind of old and crappy, so I don't know if it's there anymore. I think it had the public restrooms in it.

Why is this song not in the tab section? it's just tuned down half a step and in some E/A/B malarkey.

But whenever, as scholars sometimes do, I turned my back on books, declaring them to be the graveyards of the language, and sought contact with the simple folk, I encountered the little cannibals who lived in our building, and after brief association with them, felt very glad to get back to my reading in one piece.
