my favorite place is the Italian Deli here called Bay Cities Deli. it's the best. they use the best bread ever, and all their ingredients are excellent. the line to get a sandwich can be as long as a half hour sometimes. but it's worth it.

anyway, they have this one called the Godmother. it's got genoa salami, mortadella
coppacola, ham, prosciutto and provolone cheese, tomatoes, onions, hot peppers (or mild, i get hot) and secret sause.. all on a freshly baked roll.

it's the fucking best.

if you ever visit LA you should check it out.

I like boring sandwiches but I don't really like sandwiches, good old chicken bacon mayonaise does the trick, I'm currently living with a veggie though so goats cheese and spinach ciabatta for now. boooooo.

Best sandwiches are the simple ones: bread, a bit of butter, two slices of ham (REAL red ham), and some cucumbers, that's all!
And it doesn't smell bad like most of other sandwiches.

Sounds good. Out of curiosity, what's genoa salami? I come from Genoa and my guess is that it's the reddish salami with tiny white specks, normally sliced very thin and also known as Sant' Olcese... is that right?
Well, I guess the description doesn't do it justice, but it rocks. As do mortadella, prosciutto and provolone...

I'm a fan of the Reuben with Montreal Smoked Meat if possible.

That's good with sliced bananas too.

The kids love it too but noone is allowed to bring peanut butter anything to school anymore.

I know!
Sure makes my mornings a tad more difficult.
Nope, nothing with any trace of peanuts,
too many kids with allergies.

I've heard about that. Fortunately, my son goes to a small Montessori school and for whatever reason, the peanut thing isn't a big deal yet.

On topic again...

Egg salad on good bread (no onions, just eggs & mayo).

Also, an open faced grilled cheese, again on good bread.

But, um, shouldn't that only be a problem if your kid actually IS allergic to peanuts?

Anyway, the good old grilled ham and cheese is usually fine for me.

edwina, are you Italian? and secondly, are you single?

i think Genoa salami is different because it's softer and larger in diamater.

i went to Genoa when i was 20. nice place.

What kind of cheese? I like cheddar, but then, I haven't really tried that many weird kinds of cheese. American is okay in a pinch, but it basically just seems to be a cheap imitation of cheddar. I'm not a fan of Swiss in a sandwich.

Am I Italian? Yeah. Born and raised there, and now living in London.
Am I single? Nope :)

How come you went to Genoa when you were 20? Nothing wrong with it, mind you- only, it's not the most common destination, when you go to Italy (Rome, Venice and Florence come first, normally...).

Myself and a pal 'invented' peanut-butter-and-cheese sandwiches some years ago. I've tried the combination again recently, and it was'nt so great. I think it depends on the kind of peanut butter you use. I love marinated chicken honey-mustard mayo type sambos!
