Yes.
Well, kind of....
You see, I got pretty toasty drunk last Thursday. I went to the Black Cat (a DC rock/indie venue) for a cd release show for this band called The Chance. A combination of visual reinforcement (I was at a bar filled with smokers!) with a fair amount of liquor broke down my resolve. Therefore, I bummed a couple and smoked em. I was true to my goal before that, though. I haven't smoked one since either. I've completely stopped buying packs. I barely even think about it day-to-day.
I don't know... it's a curse, but i find it damn near impossible to avoid smoking when i'm in a bar setting and with a few drinks in me. EVIL EVIL EVIL CIGARETTES. EVIL EVIL BARS. EVILLLLLLLLLL
Other than that, though, going strong. I hope to eventually eliminate these rare, sporadic, drunken cravings.
VoVat, apl4eris- thanks for wishing me luck. Looks like I'll really be needing it. |

I'm surprised no one has told you to try out the Alan Carr book - "The Easy way to stop smoking" - yes I know it sounds like a crock of shit BUT it worked for me and I used to smoke loads! Worked out that it cost the same as a packet of cigs (in the UK at least) and therefore had nothing to lose. It works on the way your mind views smoking and it really makes it easy. Only thing is you need to read the book. Sounds easier than it is - you get to smoke throughout the book as much as you like, problem is I realised that I would in fact stop smoking when I finished it and so I stopped reading it halfway through - stupid I know, but hey, finished it eventually and haven't smoked in months now.
Well, cigarrettes at least. |

My quitting sounds a little like Apl's. I have tried quitting so many times I can't count all of them. For me, it was a very powerful addiction that took a lot of time to finally break. I tried cold turkey, smoking 1 less cigarette a day until I got to 0, the patch and the gum. What finally worked is that my husband told me that he wouldn't marry me unless I quit. I know this sounds harsh but I was so addicted that was the only reason that would make me quit for good. I still cheat and bum smokes and sometimes I buy them too but for the most part I am smoking less than 5/month. The dangerous thing is right now I feel I am not addicted and I forget I can get hooked again at any time. I think that if something bad were to happen, I might start smoking more for awhile, but I will always end up trying to quit. Right now it's way less than my pack or pack and a half a day. My best advise in addition to the other good advise here is quitting is one of the hardest things you can do. If you are quitting and start up again that is ok...just keep on trying to quit. I think I heard that the average smoker tries to quit 7 or 10 times before they are successful. Eventually, you will do it.
Good luck Psychic Twin and SkateAlex and everyone else on quitting. |

I've heard rubbing cold turkey all over your body helps.
1. I am a fsh with no i's. 2. You must be wearing Zubaz, 'cause you're daring to be different. 3. I am a man with 3 fingers...but that doesn't count my index finger nor my thumb. |
