Good concert with all the songs he played before on this tour.
No gaps between them, no talking, just plain rock.
I was at the front, say 20 cm away from frank. That's like a 12 inch LP between us. Which means I've been looking at Frank's crutch for 1,5 hours. I had to leave after the first encore song to catch my train, which I missed anyway, so I had to sleep on the floor in my friend's apartment.

funny things:
-Frank breaks off Goodbye Lorraine to tune his guitar and complain about the sound: 'who's the problem her?' 'Ohh I'm the fucker'.
Dave P. after that: 'I'm your problem, and you're my problem.'

-The dancing Rich Gilbert

-I got one of Scott's drumsticks (thank you person next to me who gave me it, because he had already cathed one)

-The Dances the two daves did together

-Frank Black anouning the band:'That's Rich Gilbert on the Pedal Steel, Scott Boutier on the drums, David McCaffrey on the Bass and What's your name kid?''
Dave P (childish voice):,,Daaave''.
FB:'It's Davey P! Little Davey P'

-Rich and Dave playing behind their back on 666

So the show was alright, but the sound of the venue sucked. It's a small but long club, so they set their system on very fucking loud. I was prepaired and wore my earplugs. And maybe the sound sucked because I was so close to the stage that I heard too much stage sound. I could hear Frank and David very good and Scott too, but the keyboard and pedal steels and Dave's guitar were almost unrecognizable in the wall of fuzz bass and distortion.
So the sound was a downer, the crowd was another one:
There was no spacey atmosphere or happy clouds over us
only during the pixies' songs, only then would the crowd rock.
The last downer of the evening was that I had to leave, they started the play at ten minutes past ten (very late in my opinion) and I really had to leave at half past eleven. So I didn't not even catch 1.5 hours FB, but I'm going to the Eindhoven show tonight so I'll get my shot FB anyway.

So to sum it upp: I had a blast, but something was not right yesterday.

setlist (songs that I heard) not in the right order:
New House of the Pope
Bullet
Jane the Queen of love
Caribou
Cactus
Monkey Gone to heaven
Nimrod's Son
Abstract Plain
Headache
Freedom Rock (ohh yes..)
Goodbye Lorraine
When Will Happiness Find Me Again
Nadine (!!!!Did they played this one before on this tour?)
Velvety (started walking to the back
Hermaphroditos is my name (heard this one when I was buying my shirt)Velouria (I left the building during the opening chords, CRAP!)
How you went so far
Cold heart of stone
California Bound
Farewell Bend
Robert Onion
My Favourite Kiss
666
Massife Centrale

I hope someone who saw the whole show could put some more songs to this list.

They played Nadine in London

"What are we going to do tonight, Brain?"
"Same thing we do every night, Pinky: try to take over the world!"

Yeah it was pretty ace. I always imagined it would be good live. And it was. Rock on out, dude. Excellent.

Last song after Velouria was The Black Rider.
Where I was standing (just in front of soundboard) the sound was indeed very loud, but not too bad at all.
And about the crowd...yes, not very enthousiastic most of the time, typical Dutch crowd I think...

I was also at the gig in Leiden. It really rocked. Especially at the parts where frank was rocking acoustically. The sound was ok (i was just in front of the middle of the crowd. But there was so much bass, I didn't know wether t crap my nickers or vomit. But it was the best (5th) FB concert I ever saw. Even though 6-66 was a drag, but it's not the first time he did the slow version.
Freedom rock really kicked ass. His acoustic guitar really complemented the band! I never heard so many pixies songs on a FB-gig. Andy Warhol made a great show (he overdid it somtimes, but he gets away with it).
I'm lookig forward to his next tour!

Leiden is such a lovely place... big windmill... wide canals and wicked canal houses ... what can I say envious you were in attendance because that is a great set list in a cool town...

St Francis, I thought you had disappeared. You hadn't been posting in a long time, had you?

(something tells me this sentence isn't correct - nevermind)

Hi,

Your sentence is fine... don't even begin to worry... if I were to use my limited French, believe me, it would be incomprehensible.

It is true, I haven't written in ages but I have enjoyed reading bits here and there. I saw this thread about Leiden and had to comment because I think it a great town. I have enjoyed reading the reviews of the European tour and it has been nice seeing what Frank has been playing. You guys on the continent have been able to catch some great shows.

Take care,

Michael

I was at the show (Hedon, Zwolle) 1 day prior to the one in Leiden billgoodman talked about.

Hedon is a good place for a gig; it's build for live music so you won't hear me complaining about the sound.

What realy suprised me was the untamed energy of the show; as said before, Frank didn't spilled time on chit-chat: "no talking, just plain rock".

It's a shame I can't remember the complete setlist (though sober 'cause I had to drive back) but I remembered it being much more rockin' than the last gig (DITS-tour).
