Lately I've been listening a lot to the Sonics, Standells, Troggs, which I haven't heard since my father played them when I was very young. Suffice it to say, my interest has been re-ignited. So my question is, besides the aforementioned, does anyone have any other good suggestions for 60s garage?
Thanks! |

Go get yerself the Nuggets box(Original Arty-facts of the Psychedelic Era.) Don't let the word "psychedelic" scare you--it's just good crunchy garage rock all the way. I think there's a British Nuggets collection now too, but I haven't heard it yet. |

Cleaned my (not-so-fun) house to Fun House the other day and it sounded sooooo good. |

looks like you mereubu beat me to the punch..
i concur.. NUGGETS boxsets all the way. it pretty much IS that simple.
And DEFINITELY get the British one (Nuggets II).. it's even more garagey and hard-core than the first one.

Ooh, thanks, floop. I've been wondering about the British one but wanted some feedback before dropping the cash.
Hey, you live in LA--you going to Disastodrome next month? |

you won't regret it, i assure you..
haven't heard of diastrodrome.. and didn't find much on the web.. i gathered it's some Pere Ubu-related music festival thing?
i haven't seen anything about it, so if you know who's playing, i'd be interested..

Yeah, it's a three-day weekend thing at UCLA and Frank is involved. He'll be doing a solo acoustic show on the first night and then the next night is David Thomas of Pere Ubu's musical "Mirror Man" in which Frank has a role. Check it out: http://www.projex.net/disasto.html

the shaggs? Are you referring to the group of sisters singing songs about "who are the parents?", their feet and such? Do not know how to play at all, but still manage to crank out sweet little tunes? They're not really garage - but still ok. Check out "you're something special to me" on kazaa - beautyfull song.
There's a dutch band - Q65 i believe - which are totally awesome. Good garage all the way. |

i like how they say "rare acoustic performance".. it's not really like it's all that rare anymore. anyway, i'll definitely be there.. anyone else?
so, i take it you're a big pere ubu fan?

Well okay, the Shaggs weren't "proto-punk", but they're recordings are lo-fi enough and performances unpolished enough (ha ha ha) that I feel justified in associating them w/ '60s garage rock. Anyway, my local college library actually has the Nuggets boxset and I've been ignoring it specifically becuz of the "psychedelic" label. What a fool I've been! |
