so, i'd been kind of been skeptical about Wilco for a while, just because i'm the kind of person who's skeptical when something catches on really quickly (a la White Stripes, Strokes etc..).. though admittedly i hadn't heard much of their stuff.
then i figured i may as well check them out, since SO MANY stinking people seem to love them.. including people who's opinions in music i respect.
my sister got it for me for Christmas and i have to say, listening to it is boring me to death. i mean, it's listenable.. there are a few toe tappers on there.. but i really don't understand what the deal is..
does anyone want to buy a used Wilco CD?
sincerely,
Floop

haha by "it" im assuming you mean YHF...which is an awesome cd and i bought it before hearing most of the hype so i was more or less unbiased. I didnt think much of it at first, sounded like a wierd attempt to redo OK Computer. I only really liked Jesus Etc. on the first few listens. but there are so many great songs on it now. Pot Kettle Black is my favorite, and then War on War. War on War is one of the most simple yet most cool songs ive ever heard. the only song that can sometimes get boring to me is #3. But if you turn it up, its kinda cool and creepy late night driving music, and when it picks up it gets even cooler. I cant imagine everyone will like wilco or that cd, and maybe youll never come around to it like i did, but i still think it rules and by the way, they put on the best live show ive ever seen (sorry Frank).

floop - If you want more rock in your Wilco then check out "AM", their first one. It's pretty similar to FB&C - i.e. Rolling Stones inspired rock.

I have said it before, but their CD's with Billy Bragg are pretty good and less "dead" then some of their other stuff, I think. |

I agree with you Floop and Em. I love the Mermaid Avenue CDs, but I cannot get into other Wilco albums. They are nowhere near as good as the late, lamented Green on Red or Chuck prophet in his solo incarnation |

ive had n trouble getting into the other wilco albums hearing YHF first. id say AM is my least favorite though there are plenty of good songs still. A Shot in the Arm from Summerteeth is an awesome song and even cooler live. hearing the piano intro combined with the tympani a little later does it for me every time.

After you hear all the praise, it's kind of a let down I admit. There are some really good songs on the album, but at the same time there are a couple that I can't get into. I dig the album tho. |

Which ones don't I dig? Radio Cure is definitely my least favorite, except near the end with the "distance has the way..." That part is great. I don't like War on War that much, and I'm not a huge fan of Reservations. But like you, Jesus, Etc. was my first favorite. I'm The Man Who Loves You is great, it really grooves. Poor Places is cool because of the eerie ending (with the "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot") voice. I just heard a LOT of great things about the album before I heard it, and was expecting like...this life changing album, but I guess I got my hopes up way too much. |

yah radiocure is my least favorite too except the end, however i love war on war to death but to each his own. i woudlnt say life changing, but for me it was about as close as you can get to that. id say any album that makes me rethink how i write songs is pretty important, but its personal obviously. i would still check them out live if i were you, maybe that will help

you know, i was supposed to see em live...it would have been the closest concert to me since i've moved to PA. they were playing at this christian college (weird!) about 45 minutes away from here. I don't remember what happened tho...we didnt end up going. i might have been out of town that weekend. |
