I know the Pixies were influenced by the Beach Boys and it has been stated that Wave Of Mutilation was written for Dennis Wilson, but does anyone know any details of this?

the line that opens wave of mutilation "cease to resist" also opens "Never Learn Not To Love" which is a beach boys song written by dennis wilson . they say that charles manson helped write the lyrics to the song. dennis wilson and charles manson where roomates for a little while in the sixties or something like that. |

Yes, Charlie Manson did live with Dennis for a while in the '67 and Dennis did rework Cease to Exist into Never Learned Not To Love, but what I'm wondering is about the Frank Black side to Wave Of Mutilation. Was Frank into Dennis own LP Pacific Ocean Blue or was he many a Beach Boys fan? |

I would assume he's a big Beach Boys fan if he covered "Hang On To Your Ego." |

I just saw a VH1 thing on The Beach Boys and it seems likely that WOM is about Dennis. Wasn't there a Beach Boys video where they drive a car into the ocean (or was that The Monkees?)
The special was vague about how he actually died, does anyone know?

He drowned - after diving off a friend's boat. I think he had consumed a lot of drugs/alcohol |

anyone ever notice how frank sings wa-a-a-a-ave just like the beach boys sing da-a-a-a-ance in the song "do you wanna dance"? well, it's the same.

Never noticed that myself.... great song Do you wanna dance. You can tell that some Pixies / Frank Black stuff has been influenced by Beach Boys / Brian Wilson. |

Yes he drowned, but it was his own boat. He had to put away the boat first, cause he didn't have any money to pay is former wives and to get enough drugs and alcohol. After he promised the beacht boys manager to pursue a good life style, he bought it back for him. Soon after that he drowned, he just dived and didn't come up again, friends were on the boat at that time. The inssurance didn't want to pay a dime, cause he was a heavy drinker and his drug abuse.
So sad...
And that charles manson thing, charles lived in dennis'house for awhile.
