He opened his set last april in Chicago with Where Is My Mind, Nimrod's Son, Mr. Grieves, Holiday Song and Gouge Away, all of them in a row. and later in the show they played Monkey Gone to Heaven. |

On the whole Pixies note, has anyone even wondered why he doesnt play anything off of Bossanova or Trompe Le Monde? Those are Pixies' songs that I would be more interested in hearing. I am tired of the usual bunch, Grieves, Where is, Wave, Nimrod, Holiday and Gouge. I want Dead, Planet of Sound, Hey, Velouria!!!!! C'mon!!!!!!! |

I agree with Mike though...would also love to hear some different Pixies stuff. I vote for Bone Machine and Cactus especially. |

I agree about the usually Pixies songs getting boring.... saying that Gouge SAway has to to be in the set as this is the best Pixies song and is my favourite song ever. I would love to see Cactus (although you really need a oman singer for that one... maybe one of the Catholics can have a temporary sex change for the tour), Bone Machine, All Over The World, Is She Weird, or Tame instead of Monkey Gone To Heaven, and the usual ones he plays. Holiday song should remain as well as it is a cool song also.

it seems like he's adding Cactus and Wave Of Mutilation lately.. the last two shows i saw (in recent months).. but the rest are the same lineup.. i wish he'd switch it up too, but hey, you can't really complain when you're seeing Frank (especially when there are so many unfortunate folks who hardly ever get a chance to see him)..

Psyched to hear he has been playing Cactus more frequently. Maybe he was bolstered by the fact it is on the new Bowie CD? Either way, very cool. I think Gouge Away should stay in the rotation. And, yeah, seeing him is great and I am happy to hear most everything he has to play.... |

Ive never heard him play Skeleton Man, Pong, followed by Thallasocracy, and Freedon Rock.... that would be cool. Although I was pleased to here him play some of the Cult of Ray songs on his last tour of Britain (Marsist, Men In Black and Kicked in the Taco). |

But, you know the audience could provide that part - sorta like they (or WE) do in "Where is My Mind" and the 'oooooo' part. |

I take your point, would sound interesting 500 or so people sing 'send it to me' along with Frank. Cactus is such a great song! |

Ive been listening to Trompe this week constantly and its a great album... don't know quite where that came from but I just had to get it out of my system. Thats the great thing about all of Franks work... I couldn't really say which is my favourite album as they are all good in different ways. |

Whats Nadine, and Manitoba? Are they new songs or covers?? What were the new songs like, rocking or were they in the style of country?? I can't believe that he isn't playing The Scene, thats such a cool song... in fact by the sounds of it he's not playing that many songs from the new albums... |

NADINE and MANITOBA are new FB songs if I understand correctly. MANITOBA sounds much like J. Cash (SPRINGTIME IN ALASKA). So, in partial response, yes country and yes new. NADINE, (again from self-depricated memory) was one of those painful (beautifully so) love songs. IN fact, I do believe it was sandwiched in between JANE and I'll BE BLUE. NADINE is a wonderful song really, just proving that this is the kinder and gentler FB. The other two were of the same caliber - though one of them blew me away. It was a staight-up rock joint. THe other was a bit more country, but you know he rocked it
Indeed, he did rock the place. I think he ate the microphone as he closed with VELVETY. Really tore the place a new hole.
No San Antonio but as I had forgotten he did play JUMPING BEANS |

Fairplay to Frank, what a great guy. I don't know any band or solo artist who plays new songs straight after a new album is released. I remember he was playing 21 Reasons before and during the release of DITS. He's a no bullshit musician, nobody compares to FB if you ask me. |

absolutely agreed upon stuart.
my girlfriend actually went to this one with me. "how'd you like it?" "frank black is really shy". Pretty odd assessment. I did not give it much thought - after all I don't really know the guy, and haven't had him brush me off personally. I suppose she just couldn't get enough of him. Indeed, was upset he didn't give her enough.
Certainly he is productive and efficient. Dylan would do the same thing - sing the same song with a different title 5-10 years before it came out in studio. That FB is not unique on this note is only lightened by the source of comparison. To wit, you can find Dylan doing these great country/-western songs.....comparisons abound....

I've never really heard much Dylan myself, just the stuff that my housemate at Uni used to play, and I didn't really like that much. Which is a good album to get for newcomers to Dylans music?? |

Blonde on Blonde, Highway 61 revisited, Street Legal (Changing of the Guard) and one of the best, if not the best, break-up record ever: Blood on the Tracks. But Mr Polaris is right - any,all will suffice! |

I'd to add DESIRE and, oh yeah, pretty much any and all would do. Though the best 40 bucks I ever spent was on the 3CD BOOTLEG SERIES.
STREET LEGAL has the "changing of the guard", the original version of which you should probably have at least heard if you posted on this site... |

Blood On the Tracks is by far the best Dylan album.
But I would probably go for a compilation. The Essential Dylan, despite a few short coming, is generally a very good piece, which has all the classics (Knockin' On Heaven's Door, Like a Rolling Stone), along with lesser known tracks like Don't Think Twice, it's alright, Jokerman, and the recent hit 'Things Have Changed'. But make sure you get the British rather than the American version - that one has six more songs, including 'I Want You' and the FB cover Changing of the Guards. |

Nashville Skyline is amazing especially if you want a real country feel. This is one of my favourite Dylan Albums (they sort of change a lot but you always go back) along with some of the ones' mentioned. As for Frank, Nashiville Skyline probably compliments the emergance of his "country flavour" the most.
Dylan also has a new (er) album called something along the lines of "Live in the UK 196-" -origional bootleg released in 2000 by Sony-is great too if you want to hear him live while he was still comprehensable. One disc is with a band the other is acoustic and all by himself. |
