Itchload, you've got a point there mate..... too much alcohol consumed yesterday made me talk absolute bullshit (for example, Rudolf the rednose reindeer is not really a self confessed crack addict). What I was meaning was the commercial crap that came out of the 80's.... Of course most of my fave bands were in their prime in the 80's.... Pixies, The Cure, Joy Division etc etc.... Things now adays just seem to be done solely for cash, with very few musically talented bands getting the recognition they deserve... its a sad state of affairs really...... I guess living in China with a crappy computer system, I'm not really getting to hear much new stuff, well certainly not understandable western music that is......

I would argue that there are more good bands out there today than ever before. Of course there are more bad ones as well, but if you dig deep enough through the dung pile you'll do alright. There are alot of current bands I like, but (aside from Frank) one rises above the rest: Sparklehorse. If you haven't heard them, you're missing out. Southern Gothic, haunting melodies with the occasional song that'll kick your teeth out.

why would i pay 30 bucks to go any concert these days, when i could pay 5 bucks for a box of sleeping pills. that's what music is these days. whiny, crappy, stupid lyrics and dumb images. nobody screams it like they mean it and every song sounds the same. how about something different!?!? (i though we were talking about frank and kim here)
p.s.
i think kim is 10x cooler than frank

I dunno what you've been listening to lately, Darby, but there are plenty of bands that kick it! (This from a person who fell asleep at a Dimmu Borgir concert out of sheer exhaustion!; but they kicked boo-tay!) And Title TK is 1/10th the album either BLD/DW is. Huffer is cool though.

Obviously everyone has their own music tastes, but I really cannot understand how anyone could think that the new Breeders albums is better than BLD & DW. I got Title TK brought over to China and was well disappointed..... but then again I don't rate Pod or Last Splash much either. In my opinion Frank produces much more consistent music than Kim. Frank has released 8 studio albums, all of which in my opinion (some of you will disagree with COR) are pretty consistently great albums. Kim has released three, and although they have moments of brilliance, on the whole they are all pretty sketchy.

This is an argument I have with another mate of mine who thinks that Kim was the driving force behind the Pixies, and that she has produced the better post Pixies music. Something which I believe is a load of bullshit.

I'd say all of Kim Deal's non-Pixies recordings (bar Last Splash) rival Frank Black's better work, though the stylistic differences between Frank and Kim's music are so extreme that a wholly objective comparison is difficult (if not impossible) to make. Still, I have a higher respect for Frank cuz he churns albums out like it's no big dea-... er, achievement.

Breeders peaked with Pod, in my opinion. But I really amn't sure whether Frank has peaked (with DitS) yet. Damn, I hope not.

Pod was better than Last Splash, but a little bit too short. Haven't heard Title TK yet tho... is it worth my cash? What about Pacer (the Amps)?
I don't know if Frank has peaked yet, and we won't know untill he dies or just stops making records. I still have to discover 3 of his albums (pistolero, fb&c and devils workshop), I just started getting into his stuff recently so I bought 5 albums at once. I've been a Pixies fan since I was 15, and heard Cult of Ray when it was released, and didn't like it that much at the time. A couple of months ago I decided to give his work another shot and was pleasantly surprised.
This message probably has no relevance at all, I'm just bored at work for the moment.

Pacer, is one heck of a record.

As a Guided By Voices-fan (Robert Pollard plays on Pacer)
it's a good trip of music

I agree, Pacer is a pretty good album, better than Pod, Last Splash and Title TK.... but nowhere near as good as any FB material... not even COR.

I'm a big Kim Deal fan, but, her albums are far from FB levels IMO. Pod was a complete album. Pacer was also good. The others are essentially EP's. I always go to her shows, she's a great performer.

kim cancelled her damn show down here.
i guess i'm just so in love with the music scene and the way it used to be, so full energy and life, that i'm closed off to anything new. call it a crutch, but i call it a time-efficiant way of listening to music. that way, i don't waste my time on any new crap. FB is good, he just doesn't "scream it like he hates that bitch", anymore.

My Kim album preference definitely alternates between Pod and the Amps record. I went to a Breeders show in October '01 and they didn't seem like the best live band ever, though they were certainly good. Kelley in particular seemed to play a minimal role musically, though she did add to the good vibes.
