Ok, I know most of you are getting tired of this subject, and no one will be able to give me a definite answer, but I'm just wondering...
If Frank was invited to a party, but it turns out he knows no one there except for Kim Deal, do you think he would talk to her, or just leave the party, and put the building on fire while leaving?
Also, do you think Frank and Kim ever went to bed together? :) (maybe that's the real reason why the Pixies split?)

Maybe they did go to bed together, I mean, how would we know that or not?
I like to think he would talk to her. They have a shared history - so I hope he would chat with her over a drink or two. And vice versa, of course. |

this should really be in the pixies section as it would've been black francis & not frank black, though I doubt if they'll even care. why would you ever want to know, fallus? -johnny |

hum, I wasn't sure about where it should go, because, well, I was wondering how Frank Black would react now... granted, the second question was more Pixies-related, but I didn't want to make two stupid threads today :)
why I wanted to know? just wondering. it doesn't matter, and it's not like anyone here is going to know. just wanted to see what you people tought, if you had heard rumours, etc...

Im sure I've mentioned this but. In a teletext interview with Kim a few monthes back she mentioned that all of them had been for a meal at Joeys and it was pretty far for her to travel so she wasn't to bothered about going. Anyway I assume they are on good terms so, yes yes he would talk to her. But we probably shouldn't really discuss matters like this I don't suppose its a bit on the personal side.

About sleeping together:
1. I really don't wanna know 2. Kim had here partners then 3. Frank had his girlfriend (now his wife) all these years

Yeah, Frank said recently how his girlfriend was complimenting him on Come on Pilgrim before it was released, so he was dating her way back when, while Kim Deal was "Mrs. John Murphy". But anyway, Frank's such a personal guy I'll bet us even talking about this type of thing would annoy him a bit. |

i think that if you're looking for drama.....watch daytime t.v......if you dont know these people (and even if you did), what the hell difference does it make? maybe you could ask the research staff from VH1's "behind the music" if this kind of stuff really keeps you up at night.
...and evolving from the sea, would not be too much time for me, to walk beside you in the sun.... |

sorry if my question offended anyone (especially frank), it was not my intention, so I appologize if it did. I didn't realise Frank's wife was already his girlfriend back then.
quote: what the hell difference does it make?
none whatsoever, but honestly, neither does most of the stuff people talk about on this, or most other forums.
quote: if this kind of stuff really keeps you up at night.
It doesn't keep me up at night at all. I was actually more interested in the first question, but the second one just popped my mind while typing the first one, so I just acted on impulse and posted it as well - me and my big mouth...

I do think fallus is the kettle and we're all the pot to criticize his post beyond its hyper-personal nature. As he just noted above, since when is this or any other online board a place to speak primarily of things that matter or make a difference?

I don't want to know.
Beyond hoping Charles makes enough coin to be a musician without the distractions of a 9-to-5 job, I really don't care to know much about his personal life. There's a certain mystique about him that might be tarnished if he revealed too much.

This is the guy that claimed he was an ugly lover, and we could find him rolling on the dirty floor. If you sing a lot about sex (even if it was in the past - I don't think much if any of his solo stuff is about sex) I don't think you care when people talk about it. If you don't want your name related with the subject, you don't sing about it. And even if he changed his mind about this, he still has to deal with his past. Not that I wanted to insult him, or his wife, or even Kim.

Thats funny, going back to that 'Mrs John Murphy' thing on the Surfer Rosa inlay card.... I actually thought that Kim Deal used to be a man, but (during the recording of SR) was going through the initial stages of a sex change, hence the 'Mrs' before John Murphy. Maybe she'd just had the 'tuck' but had yet to have electrolysis to remove the hairs off of her chest, and therefore the transistion wasn't deemed as complete. If you look closely during the Surfer tour you could see a little bit of a 'thirsty eyebrow' above Kim's lip, making her look like a cross between Iggy Pop and Thomas 'Magnum' Selleck.... and therefore she didn't see it as appropriate to call herself by her female name of Kim Deal...... just a theory I guess.

Yeah, so you can learn new phrases like "Thirsty eyebrow" and endlessly debate whether a woman was going through a sex change and pretend it has fuck all to do with Frank Black's music.
Don't get all upset. Thirsty eyebrow just made me lmao. |

i've read that it was pretty rough for Kim when they were winding down as a band, and we all know it was centered around those two. they would probably talk, i would. she's pretty talented herself and got pretty big after the breakup, so she wouldn'd be spiteful i don't think. but i bet kim would be so drunk in the first place, she'd talk to anyone. if it was me.... fuck, who am i kidding? i'm so pissed he broke up the best band, i would throw my drink in his face. |

Whoa, Darby Crash is on this message board? Do you guys think it's really him? How was it contributing songs to William Friedkin's "Cruising"? |

Actually, whilst I was listening to Last Splash a few years ago I was wandering if the song 'Do you love me now' related to Frank at all...... this was before I knew more information about Pixies and their history as a band.... I don't think that there was any chemistry between Frank and Kim, despite the music sounding like there was... I once read in a British music mag that Frank was so pissed off with Kim when she turned up fucked to a concert (and consequently couldn't play bass very well during the gig) that he threw a guitar at her.... obviously you have to treat what you read in music magazines with a pinch of salt though. |

i never thought about the "do ya love me now" song like that. frank doesn't seem to have any energy anymore, no bands do. bands from back in the 80's really screamed it, they had so much energy they could hardly get their words out. bands like DK, and the germs..... |

Yea, too bad no one screams in the 2000's. You think if Tipper Gore didn't break 'em up, Jello would still be screaming? |

maybe, but at least he's still out there, talking and pushing his cause. he's still got some piss and guts in him, he's just using his energy in a different way. he's so cool. but, music is really dying, i think the world of music caught the black plague when frank broke up the pixies. goddamit, before i ever got to see them, too. |

I agree, music is in a sorry state, but luckily Santa Claus (who I previously thought never existed) has given me a little faith that all is not lost to corporatations and shitty boybands.... Santa, dropped down my chinmey and delivered the new QOTSA album, as well as Audioslave, which both sound incredibly good.... There is alot of great music out there still, like FB & C, Neil Young etc etc.... but it is covered by the big grey cloud of money and commercialism. Most of mates nowadays are into fucking chart music, and they think that the music I like is shit because it is not easy listening, or catchy first time around....... its a sad sad world!
Q. Why can't Santa have kids? A. Because he comes once a year and its down the chimney. |

In 2010 you will be yearning for the bygone days of the 1990s.

Maybe, but not in terms of music..... I reckon the late 90's is almost as bad as the 80's for decent music.... |

Stuart, I gotta disagree with you there. I think the 80's was the best decade for music. Not only did you have Pixies, you have Sonic Youth, Replacements, Fall, Joy Division/New Order, Jesus and Mary Chain, Husker Du, REM, man..i could go on and on. I guess mainstream wise it might have been one of the worst, but that was mostly the late 80's. I kind of have to profess a foundness for some of the early 80's new wave hits. |

for me, good music started with iggy pop, bowie and the dolls, and blondie. all throught the late 70's and early 80's everything was great, bad religion, circle jerks, joy division was great, (but they promised each other they would never become another band unless they were together. when ian died, they wasted no time enlisting new singer, and leaving their goth roots for poppy music that sells.) during the 80's, i didn't really care for u2 or any of that alternative crap. nirvana was good, but they were the end. |

Huh? There's tons of excellent music coming from recent, post-early-90's bands - Built to Spill, Modest Mouse, Beck, Pavement/Stephen Malkmus, Dismemberment Plan, Death Cab for Cutie, Gay Dad, Supergrass, White Stripes and so on.. |
