Hey guys, here's a song i recorded today. It's an 'anti-consumerism anti-xmas carol'..well, not really a carol, but what the hey:
X Marks the Mess - right click and choose 'Save As'
Thoughts? I might get a friend to play violin and piano for it.. Perhaps a little too much 'verb on the vox too.. |

I think you're headed for big lump of coal in your stocking this year, mister. :) I may be biased, but some violin would be nice. |

Thanks for listening mereubu and BF. =)
Miked:
-> AT 4033 about 12" away from the 12th fret. (That's prolly a little close, but the noise from my computer is dreadful, you can hear it in the pause before the 'ending'.)
-> Mackie 1402
-> RNC Compressor on insert
-> Layla24
-> CubaseSX, TC Native Reverb
That's it. =) |

i dont know how to describe what i like about it and other similarly recorded acoustics. ill try though. theres like enough bass but it doesnt like warble out. its real tight. the analogy that keeps coming up in my mind is that you could almost lean on the sound becuase it sounds strong. i dont know, probably makes no sense. ill have to try to figure out how to do it. whats the Layla24?

Yeah, the bass does come through really strongly and clearly on this... I used the 75hz cut on the mixer..(it was rather muddy with it off.) Often, cutting out the really low levels will allow the mid-bass levels to breath more and actually gives you more 'bass'. And in most rock tunes, it's the kick drum that's giving you the bass, not the bass guitar.
I made this mistake in my other new tune 'Ain't No Man' - waaaay too much bass from the bass guitar and it muddies everything else. From now on i'm sticking to my preferred 'bass-cut' bass sound.
The Layla24 is a professional 24bit/96khz sound card. Visit www.echoaudio.com for more info. |
