Who's the bonehead that struck the fromata chord (Em6/B flat, I think) too early at the end of Black Rider #2. It happens 2:55 into the tune. It's gotta be either Dave Philips or (gasp!) Frank himself. Anyone notice this?

Looking back at that post of mine, it seems a little hostile and I don't want anyone to misunderstand. I really like that song. I like the arrangement of #2 much better than #1. It's got a retro, 60s feel to it thanks to the keyboard. I'm also certain all the Catholics know that flubbed chord is there. After all, they could've done another take; the song isn't that difficult. My point is that I think it's sort of intentional; a concious choice not to do another take.

I think that is how he writes new songs, if u mess up enough chords u got a new song. I wish I could mess up like that.
[Holland and the Netherlands is the same country, and the people speak dutch. Amsterdam is the Capital but the government is in Den Haag]

Dem is some good ears you got. I think it was Dave P who messed up, and I'll bet you he'll receive the beating of his life when Frank reads this posting. Don't be surprised to find Dave replaced for the next recording and tour. We might as well say our goodbyes now. p.s. How can one country have two names? Do the Dutch have a preference?

The dutch prefer 'Nederland' as it is called in Dutch, in the northern part of Belgium they say: Holland, in the southern part of belgium the say: Pays Bays as in they do in France.
Frank knows a lot about this I noticed on an Interview for dutch television on the lowlands festival, he even mentions local accents like Flemmish. After that he plays the Black rider so we are Back on topic again. (I swear he does)
hope this makes any sense,
Vincent.

Interesting. Nederland means the 'Lowlands' - correct. What does Pays Bays mean? Or are you joking?

I used to know a guy who was from the Netherlands and he hated it when people told him he came from Holland. He said Holland is only a part of the Netherlands, a province. He himself was from Frise (?? Vincent, will you correct me please! I only know the French name).
That would mean the country doesn't actually have two names, finally. But maybe he was bullshitting me. He was a communist, after all :-)
I can't think of a country that has two names. Although I must say I always found this whole "England - Great Britain - UK" mess very confusing.

Yes, it's all very confusing... I'm Dutch myself, and in my humble opinion, both The Netherlands and Holland is fine. There exist two regions in the middle of the country called North- and South-Holland, which are economically/culturally/bureaucratically etc. considered the most important, but few Dutch (a word remaining from a time when the German Emperors ruled over the area by the way) people would limit the concept of 'Holland' to these provences.
'The Netherlands', 'Nederland' or 'Les Pays Bas', spelled correctly, means indeed 'the low lands', and so does 'Holland' in a way, since 'hol' means actually 'hollow'.
What is now Belgium was originally included in 'The Netherlands' (back then 'Holland' probably WAS used only for the middle of what is now The Netherlands) until it separated in 1830, if my memory serves me well, after a time of pretty heavy exploiting by the Dutch. Belgium is now divided into Flanders in the north, speaking Dutch, and Wallonia in the south, speaking French. It's nevertheless one country though.
Well, that's about as far as my knowledge reaches... now let there never be any doubt again over the glorious country of cheese and windmills and wooden shoes! |
