Morning all. I'm just rushing through as I prepare to be overrun with small children for the day. (Z will spend the day destroying the house with her friends while their mother and I hide in the bedroom and watch the Anna Nicole show or discuss HH type business. It's best to just get out of the way and let it happen.)

| Anna Nicole Smith (help me out here, Em) is a large Texas train wreck of a woman. I guess she originally rose to fame as some sort of model/centerfold then married a nonagenarian who promptly died and left her millions. His heirs dispute her claim, so she's famous but essentially penniless. Hence her agreement to participate in a reality-based TV show which simply documents her life. . . a tragic juxtaposition of white trash and Beverly Hills. She's stupid beyond belief. It's a guilty pleasure. I'm not proud of myself, but I can't not watch it. |

| Let's see, her psychologically disturbed poodle, Sugar Pie, met with a pet therapist. (We also frequently see Sugar Pie ripping the clothes off a large teddy bear and "dating" it.) A.N., her lawyer, son, and assistant were pitted against each other in an extremely ugly eating contest; scary white trash relatives came to visit; decorators were hired and fired--oh, it's all just trivia but somehow fascinating b/c she's so brutally ignorant. |

this is a highlight from there about the eating contest;
Anna, Howard, Kim, and Daniel participate in an eating contest. The rules are, no barfing until after you quit. There is issue taken with this. Kim gets her tongue pierced, and Anna gets a tattoo-touch up. Bobby "decorates" the house in "luxurious" things, and Daniel wears another Nirvana shirt. I think he's doing it on purpose -- every week a Nirvana shirt? It's weird. |

I have meant for some time to check out Captain Beefheart--any recommendations as to what would make a good introductory album? I always hear about Trout Mask Replica but don't really know where to begin. (Sorry--then we can go back to talking about boobs.) |

I love Beefheart! I wouldn't start with Trout Mask or Lick My Decals Off Baby - they take a bit of getting used to (I love them now). Safe as Milk is very good - it was one of John Lennon's fave albums. Personally I would get Clear Spot and The Spotlight Kid, they are now together on one CD. Clear Spot has the peerless Big Eyed Beans from Venus on it - this seems to be highly-rated by most followers of the Magic band. From the Eric Drew Feldman era I like Shiny Beast a lot, and also Ice Cream for Crow. |

| Back to Beefheart - how sad am I? I couldn't get into Trout Mask Replica at all, ignoring about 2-3 tracks. Once when I had a bad fever I put it on and it all made sense! I now associate the album with sickness - I rarely play it when I am well. Unfortunately my dear wife detests Beefheart - if I get to play Beefheart she retaliates with the J Geils Band |

| J Geils Band! I heard Centerfold over the radio at Z's dentist's office the other day. Ah, good times. We have similar struggles with Pere Ubu and the Stooges--though I love both, my tolerance is lower than his and it's probably not great for small children. |
