I think the Henhouse has become the 'Lonely Hearts Club' of late. Blaaaahh...stupid New Year. I guess we are just enjoying being partners in misery. But we need distraction from that - so glad you came by!
Did you have a nice New Year's Eve?

You can do it Zan! New Year's Eve was quiet Em - ignoring the fireworks' displays set off from all of Edinburgh's 7 hills at midnight. 100,000 attended the main street party. Would you believe Culture Club were the main act playing below the castle? Anyway, I saw a bit of that on telly and was in bed by 1.05am! |

Oh, there you are!
Culture Club?? Really??? With Boy George and that guy he shagged? I didn't think they spoke - but for enough money anyone can be bought I guess.

They have been part of an 80s tour before now, along with ABC and (I think) Duran Duran. The Horror indeed. Incidentally, always remember that no man is an island, unless he is in the bath |

Have you noticed that I heard Ramona Sing was voted off (criminally early in my view) in Survivor, and now Ten Percenter is under threat? |

Hey, gals. And Andy. I think the castle should have defended itself from Culture Club by collapsing on them (do you really want to hurt me? YES!) . . .
You naughty ladies are mysterious today and full of mischief, I can tell. ; )
Must go in search of retail therapy myself. Need high shoes so I can properly intimidate the students. My mother and I went shopping for clothes the other day and came back with many tight blouses, reasoning that if I dazzled them with boobs, they might not notice my extreme fear of public speaking. Aieee! |

Glad to hear about the boobie blouses, Ms. Sarah. Good luck! When does this gig start and what are you teaching? |

Thanks, doll. I need the luck. Starts 1/22. 2 classes: Intro to Theatre and part 2 of a year long history/lit. class. Someone's taking a term off and I figure that I'm the nearest semi-qualified person they could rope into it. (I have an M.A. in theatre history & criticism but bailed on the PhD--who wants to be in school for 25 consecutive years?) I'm kind of excited, but not thrilled about taking time away from Miss Z. |

Wow! Two classes is a lot - but that is so exciting! I am sure the Zeld will be okay...does she go to day care or since it is night classes she'll just be home with Daddio? I bet she'll miss you (and vice versa) but it'll be a great experience.
Very cool! |

Yeah, she'll be fine. She goes to preschool three mornings a week, and that's when my classes are. Mostly I'll just be stressed by the juggling. It's hard to make my brain work again after four years. Before Zelda, I was an office mgr/secretary for 27 people. One morning, 8 months hugely pregnant, I said, "Screw these idiots--I'd rather go on welfare!" got up and waddled away from my desk and out of the building. Never even went back for my stuff. I figure office work is out for me from now on, coz there's just no way to make that look good on a resume. :-) |

I have walked off two temp jobs that I can think of - then I just changed temp agencies! Anyway, more power to you!
She'll be great - she'll know her mom is a cool lady teaching others. Hey, you're getting close to 300 posts - go you!
Okay, everyone go and answer my Mottos thread - I need your thoughts and brilliant wisdom! |

Yeah, we let new people enter slowly - one toe into the water at a time if you like. I am sure I speak for the other tarts and cupcakes when I say "we'll be gentle...the FIRST time!" |

Don't worry miked, it's really pretty mild in here. St. Francis and I used a whole page yesterday discussing food.
Thanks for the encouragement, Em. I'm off to watch Sesame Street for a while. That Cookie Monster--such a rascal! |

Yeah, I used to live on South St near The James Gate, but JP has become muy expensivo. I loved it though. Very few corporate infestations.

I'm not sure about this Em. I think we are only gentle if the new participant does not mind bedding down on pinball machines, gravestones, freezing lakes and ludicrously abrasive rugs.
Sarah, you will be great! How someone with your wit can be afraid of public speaking defeats me. The castle did not collapse - I suppose having surived a fair few conquests it was not going to fall to Boy George. The Henhouse would be another matter altogether |

Hee-hee! "Ludicrously abrasive rugs," indeed.
Thanks for the vote of confidence, Andy. Dunno why the phobia. I'm fine with performing--acting, playing an instrument, etc. Speaking petrifies me. My husband suggests I gesture with a riding crop while lecturing. ;-)

I used to be an abysmal public speaker as I developed a nervous gulp. So-called friends told me that the 'frog-like gulps' were the most intellectually-stimulating parts of my talks |

Ribbit! See, my problem is that I get nervous and start talking really fast--except that I don't notice it. My junior high school nickname was "Fast Forward." I'm worried that I'll run through a lecture in, like, ten minutes and be left staring at them for the next forty. |
