Hi Em, glad the show was great. It must be great to be on personal terms with McDave :)

I certainly am, apart from i'm really quite ill. The energy my immune system requires has been diverted to shivering, shouting and jumping around. I am very snotty. but yeah frank was great! And isn't Em lovely? hope you had a good time with her up north. cheers |

Ah well, as long as the ill health has kicked in now, and not the last two nights. I agree re Em, you seem to have enjoyed her down south :)

Um, no one enjoyed me "down South" - at least not on this trip! Yikes.
I have a complete FB hangover - am not well, and can't stop tearing up! I am retarded.
Anyway, had a great time with you both...someday we will do a COMPLETE HH get together. I'll bring the beer.

Does it take anyone else's computer a long time to open the 103rd page of the Henhouse?

Whereas other threads take about a soldid second to open, the Henhouse takes about five. (I know these are not long increments of time, but I was just curious as to whether the amount of pages in a thread had anything to do with how long it takes to open it.)

I think others have commented on this, but I just timed a one pager vs. this and couldn't tell a difference. Strange. Maybe it is loading the other pages, or has to parse through a big file to get to page 103?

I don't know, 'taint no biggie, though. If it took like, a minute or two, I'd be concerned but a matter of a couple of seconds isn't a big deal.
Just so's ya know, "The King Holds Court" has started taking a little more time, too, ever since it hit about five or so pages. Weird that mine does that and yours doesn't appear to.

I hate to take up more space here, but I'll chime in on this since I've noticed it too. I'm on a cable modem, with very few on the tree so far, and the same happens to me. |

I don't know. I know that I have ultra-high-speed moderator access, but... :)
Really strange. I'm going to do another test.

OK, now I'm getting that. I guess I must have tested it against a smaller multi-page thread. Against a single thread it does load significantly slower.
Definitely related to the way that the forum stores the posts, then. I wonder why they didn't stack the data instead of FIFOing it. Probably didn't anticipate a 103 page thread. :)

You know I tried a G5 the other day and I wasn't too impressed. Supposedly the dual processors are supposed to work wonders but someone in my class was trying to render an animation on it and it was only working at like, one frame every five or so minutes, out of about 200 frames. The guy tried to play an animation he had done on it, and it kept stopping in the middle like it was bogged down. Then, the guy put the same file in a 1G RAM Dell and it played through fine the first time. I told the guy that surely it must be some kind of setting not set right on the Mac, because I would've thought it would have blown the Dell out of the water.

I thought we were done with the "my computer won't access a 103 page thread as fast as it will a single page thread" topic. =)
