How many have used substances to enhance the enjoyment of a Catholics album?

Nothing stronger than caffeine and endorphins here, but I am currently enjoying (due to the flu and a TMJ flare-up--I swear it's, uh, purely medicinal) a pleasant little cocktail of cough syrup, phenylephrine, Vicodin and a muscle relaxer. I imagine I will still be messed up on this stuff when I see Frank's solo show two nights hence. I'll let you know if it enhances the performance. I'm guessing that acoustic + downers = something pretty darned mellow. I better stay away from the bar lest I end up in an am-bu-lance.

I know the question was about using a substance while listening to an ALBUM,

but it seems strange to me that anyone would let themselves get totally smashed at a Frank Black concert (or any concert). Wouldn't you want to remember the show in all it's glory? I'm talking mostly about alcohol and in mass quantities. I was at a show and this chick was totally wasted and being annoying. She probably didn't remember one song Frank played. I don't drink, and couldn't drink at a Frank show anyway, cuz I'm only 20, so maybe someone can explain why getting drunk at a frank show would be a good thing.

I have used many substances to listen to Fb before. They include headphones, a stereo, and a strong volume control. But Yes! I have enjoyed many Fb&C's albums while smokin', afta smokin' and whatever lies within the unmentioned. I have occasionally enjoyed a few too many drinks while listening and then again I have enjoyed many too many drinks while listening as well. To each his/her own. Just enjoy!

personally i find drinking to be an absolutely perfect compliment to a good show.. some people don't know how to drink. i, on the other hand, am a seasoned professional.

but i do agree.. if you're getting into the black-out phase, or violently beligerent, that's lame. but a little drunken roudiness never hurt anyone..

throwing bottles has hurt people though..

just remember this: liquor before beer, you're in the clear. beer then liquor, never been sicker.

i wish I could still trip... (i'm already insane) I remember the times I did and listened to FB and Pixies, that shit fucked me up...

but uh...

yeah, if you are in an altered state, pretty much anything will do that to you... but there is something about the way frank thinks and chooses words and etc. that is intoxicating and inspiring in itself... But we all know that anyway, regardless of our state of mind.

As far as the drinking, you don't need it, but a drink or too kind helps you relax and bounce with the rhythm of the music... defintely not a neccessity, but if you are an alcholic like Floop and I, you know what I am referring to...

I been tasting the Amstel Light a lot lately ever since someone said they saw him drink it. And also the Sapporro, I remember him saying that was his favortite beer when he did the Superbowl interview almost 2 years ago...

I like Guiness though, not too strong and very delecious... nice and cold...

Derek, you got a good head on your shoulders, don't fuck it up with the booze like I did!

My motto is: I'll try anything once, twice if I like it. And I have found that I like alot of substances. And Yes, I have enjoyed many hours of Frank Black and The Pixies in every state of mind and conciousness possible!

I would have to say that the people who get embarassingly drunk are just not there to see Frank and then they end up fucking it up for everyone. I don't mean people who drink, but people who drink so much that they interfere with the show. By the way, where did you see the show with the drunk chick? There's probably one at every show, but I too was at a show this spring where there was a disruptively drunk girl. I vividly recall conspiring with other female patrons and trying to determine whether we were justified in taking her out.

Perhaps we should start a concert etiquette thread? I know I've seen plenty of bad behavior at shows over the years.

smokey smokey smoke! Brownies before the Bowery show did the trick. I was real lucid and and the music poured through my pours. Its an electric state of being, I prefer to open the senses a little, but like to maintain focus. Our little green friend acts like a focuser. Makes the music a little more intense for me. Had a couple of beers as well. Real good times, didn't fall down and got myself home alright. Yogic memory methods help with memory loss.

My friend offered Frank(threw it on the very small stage during gouche away,U know when;) a bag of weed @ his show in leiden(holland).
After the song he thanked him for it, but said he stopped smoking and gave it back;"but I had I grolsch(dutch beer)for dinner" he joked and played on.

We decided to smoke it ourselves then.

greetingzz, Vincent

As my friend said before we went to see Frank "I think it's 4:20 - let's change our minds". I also drank a few glasses of vodka and cranberry juice but that was as far as I went. I did want to be MOSTLY concious and aware so I could remember it all clearly. And I think I accomplished that...

Drinking doesn't really turn me on.

Marijuana is sooooooooooooooooooooo wonderful. Basically, it's the only thing that helps me relax. I get wound up so tight sometimes that I can't even remember what I enjoy.

Ganjah reminds me to slow down. It helps me to not be distracted. It makes the experience of doing ANYTHING creative so rich.

As with anything, it must be tempered and it must not turn into a 24/7 thing. Then it's not special. You become just a waste. But if you do your work first, you can play, ya know.

(1826 kicks ass when you're VERY VERY HIGH)

I have never done anything but pot. Someone said I should try Mushrooms but I am slightly afraid of psychotropics.

They said that it's better than if I were to try syd. I could agree with that as it's natural....

anybody have anything to say about that?

My fave substance to use whilst appreciating Frank on a different level is a strong hit of cinammon...

The "natural" thing doesn't really mean much. Anthrax and poison blowfish are also natural.

In the words of Bill Hicks, drugs have been put on this planet and are growing freely to help the human race speed up evolution.

I am astounded that FB fans could be anti drugs.

I don't think anyone can be anti-drugs or supporting drugs. If you indulge, so-be-it, if you don't - that is your choice. Just ask HST. He will set the record straight. As for drugs growing freely. If you are talking about Peyote, Mary Jane and mushrooms I agree, not chems though!

The above post goes to show that the swimmer is very intelligent.

It also shows that he has a weakness for 14-year-old boy comedy.

I bet he tickles them just to hear them giggle.

A few I'm sure, but nevertheless i find Franks music to be psychoactive in itself. I find that "I'll be blue", "Dog in the sand" tend to make my eyes leak and many others give me physical reactions which tend to negate my usual desire (to listen to music under the influence).
Having said that, i love to send some smoke up & listen to Frank Black.
