Now that this tour is wrapping up, I am just wondering what people's favorite songs and/or moments of the shows were. I personally really enjoyed Franks accoustic MONKEY GONE TO HEAVEN and hearing all the new stuff, esp. JANE, COLD HEART OF STONE, FAREWELL BEND, WHISKEY, etc.

I loved "Horrible Day" and "Manitoba" the most. The show that I went to in DC floored me though, and since I didn't know much Frank Black material and he didn't announce any songs I didn't know what many of the songs were. I had also never read up on Frank Black and the Catholics and just figured Frank would be the kind of guy that wouldn't play stuff from his old bands so I was really ecstatic when they came out and the bassline from "Gouge Away" started up. I must say my other friends that went to the show all don't even really like the Pixies, just went to humor me mostly, and everyone seemed to really love the double pedal steel version of "Monkey Gone to Heaven". Ok, that was far to long.

I felt like I had a religious experience during GOUGE AWAY, SUCH a great song. And just what we do to each other sometimes during relationships...okay, maybe I should start a different topic on that. Anyway, yay for Frank!!
So so so so good. I can't stop playing ONLY his music since I saw him. |

Men in Black was much better on this tour than on COR.
I have to say I'm a bit disappointed with this tour's setlist in general. Some of his best songs like "End of Miles", "I will run after you", "Valentine and Garuda", "San Antonio, TX", "His Kingly Cave" were rare if not absent. I'd still like to hear more from TOTY and the first Catholics album. "Steak and Sabre" is one of my least favorite songs on there. I got the distinct feeling that this tour was a "Let's play songs we're not sick of even if they aren't the best ones"
Don't get me wrong. The shows fucking rocked, but when I listen to the boots on the FTP site, I pine for an earlier tour . . . |

Scott Boutier gave me a mini disc of the first five songs from the Boston show that he confiscated from someone in the audience... Those Catholics don't like bootlegging. They told me that once they took someone's video camera and smashed it on the ground . We asked them if we could tape one of their shows just for our own personal memories, and they said hell no . So I wouldn't fuck with them. Too bad I don't have a mini disc player.

funny this story about scott boutier - considering what FB himself has posted to this forum about taping shows. also, i spoke to scott in 2001 and he said that they didn't mind audience recordings or photos - but videotaping was another matter.
why the seemingly sudden shift in taper policies?

Why would Scott confiscate a bootleg so he could give it to someone else? |

I just got it - Jeremy... FROM THE BENNIES, BABY!
So Mr. Paperclips has an "inside" perspective... interesting.
Uh-huh.
And, oh, by the way Jeremy, I met you at the Saratoga Winners show - we spoke about SSMVGD and its Internet "origin" - if you know what I mean - you played a great set that night. I have a photo of you playing with FB watching from behind the stage in the background. Just ask Dave Noisy - I uploaded all my pics *weeks* ago and, alas, they're still not posted anywhere...!

At the show in Toronto. They capped the night off with John the Revelator. Absolutely astonishing. I will never forget it. Has to be my favourite. Looking for a live recording for my collection. Anyone?

hehe - i doubt they ever smashed anyone's camcorder. It'd be like someone grabbing FB's Tak and smashing it because they don't like a song. I don't think so.
Hey TBG - we'll have those photos online really soon - gibbo scored us some awesome code to display pics, just waiting for the delivery. =) |

I loved when he played Solid Gold in Charlottesville, it was the first time I had ever heard the song, being as Cult of Ray is the only solo album I don't own. It was amazing, everyone that went with me agreed that it freaking rocked! I also enjoyed Heloise, my new favorite (if that is possible) Frank Black song.

Tour favorites...I think Black Rider was the best...fuck that song is intense. I've been waiting to see Gouge Away for the longest time and I was pleasantly satisfied with the outcome. How You Went So Far was another I was very much looking forward to, and it was very good as well.
Oh, I should also give high mention to the triplet of super rockin songs (was it Thallasocracy, Crackity Jones, and I Want Rock & Roll?) That fucking blew me away too. |

Hey Zan... I remember you. You were really cool and I'm glad you liked our shows. It's always fun to see people at more than one show. I'm still not used to that. If it weren't for Charles we'd still be playing in our basement wondering why we have no fans. He's really given us slackers a big kick in the ass and I am grateful. Zan, you should come check us out next time we play near your area.
Big_galoof, that is a picture I would love to have a copy of. Email me at jeremy@thebennies.com and maybe we can work something out.
Dave Noisy, they really did smash someone's camcorder, unless they are liars. Catholics don't lie. At least they aren't supposed to. |

ah- a well of misinformation. i did not take it. a bouncer gave it to us, unaware that we don't mind audio recordings. we gave it to the bennies as an end of tour gift. besides, none of us use mini-disc's. |

Hey Scott, so many topics posted and mis-info. Thanks for taking the time to clear up the misconceptions and the misunderstood. We all appreciate the effort so very much. It is such a thrill to find that you guys actually acknowledge the site and forum. Now tell Frank to get his ass in gear and answer some of these burning questions we have for you, him and the band! Only joking! Thank you for the tour and the two new amazing albums. Hope to see you guys again very soon. Take care.

A ha, I see... I was not aware of the mini-disc's origin so I assumed that the band confiscated it. I shall assume no more.
Hey Dave and Jim, please don't use me as an excuse to sleep with each other. That is way too much responsibility. |
