Smartripper is a good program for this..sorry i don't have a link handy. Also note it just rips the DVD and leaves you with a bigassed 4gig pile of VOB files, you'll prolly want to encode them, but that's too lengthy to discuss here.. |

Miked - any luck finding an encoder? If so what format do you use? DivX? MPG/VCD? |

Ahhh . . . to have a standalone DivX player. You know it's the next "add-on" like MP3 or CD-R readability or DVD audio. That will finally mark the only reasonable claim for being able to "copy" a DVD to a CD (or two).
I have this DivX encoded copy of Goldeneye that I re-encoded to MPEG-1 (VCD compliant) to watch on my DVD player. It looks quite a bit worse than the original DivX AVI file (at almost double the size), but STILL better than most VCDs I've captured straight from my TV tuner. I bow reverently toward the DivX gods.
Oh yeah. TMPGenc is my encoder of choice. Virtual Dub for editing. But figure out how to frame-serve through like DVD-2-AVI and cut out the middle man.

john, you might want to check out WinDVR2 for capturing TV directly to VCD. I've tried a ton of programs and this is the only one that I absolutely loved. If you get the settings right, you can have great looking VCDs. |

On kazaa (or some other p2p program), download "dvd copy plus 4.0, w/ crack". it includes smart ripper (need a couple gigs of space to store the ripped files), then another program which compresses the ripped files into different formats and qualities. It also includes a burning program fer yer cd-r drive, but you don't really need it if you have a good one like nero, or if you're only keeping them on yer harddrive. watch out for viruses. smoochy, johnny |

I'll have to check out WinDVR2, Barto. I actually tried dvd copy plus and it kept on crashing my computer. An all-in-one like that is tough cause it's hard to troubleshoot and annoying because you basically have to set it up, then let it go for several hours and hope it works. At least I think it was called DVDCopy, the one I used. Vamos a ver.
