i could see this being very true.
I saw Bowie on the Carson Daly show (Last Call i think?) and somehow the interview got turned toward the pixies. Bowie of course initiated that. Carson wouldn't do that, he's too much of an idiot. Anyway, Bowie raved about the pixies and said some other stuff, but i forgot what. It was pretty cool.

i saw bowie on conan and unless i'm mis-remembering he did not do 'cactus' (though it is on his latest album.) he did 'afraid' and 'a better future.' he didn't mention the pixies or frank black. he spent most of the time raving about jackass. ;) (johnny knoxville was also on this episode.)
sounds like your friend didn't want to admit to watching carson daily ;) |

i'm constantly amazed, and stoaked, at how much of an ardent Frank supporter Bowie is. i swear to god, every fucking time i see him on TV in an interview he somehow manages to work Frank into the conversation.. and, of course, he covers Cactus on his latest and used to cover Debaser in concert.
the man has taste. that's all there is to it..
i remember WAY back, right after Pixies split, he was on Arsenio Hall (remember that??) and Arsenio asked him what some of his influences were and he said, "oh, i like 'old' bands... like the Pixies.".. of course Arsenio didn't get the joke (about them being old) and i'm sure the entire studio audience didn't either. but i was like, FUCK YEAH!!!!
then on his recent Leno performance, he covered Cactus and in the middle part where they spell out P-I-X-I-E-S he sang C-H-U-C-K.. and at the end of the song started yelling "Charles!"..
the guy is as big a fan as any of us
Davie, are you on here too?? |

hope they is brown pants dave!
also - this is truly amazing. bowie played in dublin a good few years back in the olympia (dublins best spot to see gigs) for 2 nights (i got tickets to the 2nd gig and it was great) - but he came out for the encore on the first night wearing a pixies t shirt. i am very very reliably informed about this by a close buddy. also - in the channel 4 doc about the pixies he stressed how vital they were to spawning a generation of bands... even though we heard it before coming from bowie is truly special. a great guy and an amazing musician. low and station to station are two albums i truly love. you kick ass Mr Jones.
cheers

on that note, someone once mentioned to me that there are 4 songs of Frank and David Bowie together, doing Bowie songs, in preparation for that Bowie 50th Birthday party thing.. in just a casual, rehearsing type environment. i know that Frank and D.B. eventually did Heroes together... but does anyone know about these other recordings?

I've got a recording from the show itself - Fashion and Scary Monsters. I think it is after Fashion that Bowie thanks " the extraordinary Frank Black" - Frank's vocal's are great. But I have no pre-show recordings... anyone else help? |

Was at the Witnness show and that was amazing didn't play any Pixies songs but he did wear the T-shirt. Please note that I did go to get a drink mind quite a few times and could have missed one.
