My name is Arthur Edwards and I used to play bass in a band called the Refreshments. I've spent the past five years writing a novel, which is now available, called Stuck Outside of Phoenix. It's a fictionalized account of life in the Tempe, Arizona, music scene circa 1990. You can find out about Stuck Outside of Phoenix at www.defunctpress.com.

There are no specific references to the Pixies in the novel. The novel simply takes place in the era of music that The Pixies are associated with. Still, some of the bands mentioned in the book are:
Meat Puppets Bob Mould/Husker Du Jane's Addiction Replacements fIREHOSE
Anyone with even a passing interest in the Phoenix/Tempe music scene in the 90s, which spawned the Gin Blossoms, the Refreshments and Dead Hot Workshop, would be interested in the novel.
Thanks,
Arthur |

Greg Sage is down in the Phoenix area, ain't he? My ears are stuck a little further south, in that Giant Sand territory. Not enough people know about Swerve or Center Of The Universe (imho). I like that first sentence on the excerpt page. It's got a good ramble to it. I think I've got some credit at the local book store... hmm... HEY, ya like Camden Joy's "Last Rock Star"? Good stuff there, and he's a good fella, too. Best of luck with the word selling! |

Last I heard, which was about 12 years ago, Greg Sage was in Tempe.
Just finished Joy's book last week and really liked it. Hoping to get more from him.

You guys are still raking in residuals for your King of the Hill theme, right?
A fictionalized account of a rock scene sounds very interesting...
