How do people rate this band? I've got tickets for next Wednesday's show at the Scala in King's Cross, but I haven't really heard any of their stuff. I like Godspeed and Explosions In The Sky and everything, so I reckon I'm onto a winner here.

I haven't heard much of the band's music, but I remember liking what did cross my ears. I had forgotten the name too, but I'm sure this is it, so thank you.

I just got He Has Left Us Alone, But Shafts Of Light Sometimes Grace The Corners Of Our Rooms....... the other day. I'd heard of ASMZ and am a big fan of God Speed but didnt know they were some of the same people. He Has.... is pretty God Speed like, except with different intruments, no gutairs, more violins and ceilos, same weird audio samples and lovely sound scapes. Unlike God Speed they have lyrics which are really nice. Great stuff, very creepy. I've seen God Speed live and a friend of mine said ASMZ are just as good.

I haven't heard any ASMZ yet, but they are on my wishlist. I like Trail of Dead and Godspeed, so it should follow that I would rreally enjoy them too. Rachel's is close to my heart - they have been doing this type of music as well for a long time now. Free mp3s http://www.epitonic.com/artists/rachels.html

I'd recommend Explosions In The Sky, then, also M83 and definitely definitely Mogwai.

Thanks Cheeseman. I bought Explosions for my brother - I liked it pretty well, just a little more pop than was my mood at the time I listened maybe? Don't know if I like Mogwai very much - maybe I heard the wrong stuff, but it sounded too much like a Slint derivative for me. I like my Slint music straight up. My mind sometimes changes abruptly though....Have heard mention of M83, and the reviews make me think it might be like Plaid and Boards of Canada too, which is great - I will certainly look into it.

I haven't heard Boards Of Canada, they're on my wishlist. You have to like Mogwai, listen to their last album (Happy Songs For Happy People). Its just immense.

hehe...seems you quite like Mogwai now MrCheese...good man! and heartily agree with your recommendation. (..have you got any other of their cd's?)
and I too am going to see Silver Mt Zion next wednesday. I have their 2 earlier cds, but not the latest one - i prefer the 2nd one.
but simon, have you receieved your ticket yet - cause i have not recieved mine yet and i am getting worried and ticketweb is not responding to my enquiries....
I too like Explosions in the Sky and was rather miffed about missing their 2 London dates over the last 2 weeks due to me being slack and not ordering tickets early enough.
anyone going to All Tommorrows Parties? i am and am very excited about it.

i think it is a bit bizarre that the tickets haven't been released yet considering the gig is only just over 5 days away.
knowing that you also haven't receieved yours makes me feel better...
