I was sifting through some posts from a few months back on the forum, and I came across this, which I wrote. It was in the Liz Phair thread. I thought I'd share this story one more time.
"As for Exene Cervanka, I saw her band the Original Sinners at a small coffeehouse here last year, and they were great live, except for Exene. Her vocals were low in the mix and she wanted it that way, probably because from what I could hear she wasn't particularly on vocally that night. She was being a complete bitch, too, and not in an intentionally bitchy punk way, but just a bitter old bitch. The crowd consisted mostly of late teens, early 20s boys and girls, and Exene seemed bothered by that. She made a few snide remarks about it, including asking, "Okay, how many people here saw the Ramones live? Show of hands?" and only a few people raised their hands. It was like, Jesus, be glad we're seeing you live, bitch! They played a very short show and then Exene just dropped the mic and got off stage. I liked the music enough to buy the CD, and her vocals are much better on that, and the lyrics are good. Kim, the bass player, made up for Exene's shitty behavior by being really cheery on stage and really nice when I talked to her after the show. Exene didn't seem to want to speak to anyone, just sat at the merchandise table frowning while the bands' ex-Ozzy roadie-looking roadie handed took care of handing out CDs. I talked with Exene for a second. It was a forgettable exchange, but she did smile distantly, and at that moment I saw human and realized she was just in a bad mood. I think. It left me with a rather bad association with X."

I've got a Exene signed T shirt from about 1988. Do you think it's worth anything??
The first 2 or 3 X albums are xcellent in my humble opinion.

Yet another punk band I have to discover... I love punk but have very few punk records. Hell, I bought my first Clash CDs 2 weeks ago... But I made my list of punk bands I want to listen to, and X is among them. FYI, it includes the Bad Brains, Black Flag, Buzzcocks, Damned, Fall, Richard Hell, Minutemen, PIL, Pere Ubu, Television, Wire and X. I'm always saying that I love punk, and in fact I don't know shit about it.

I love Richard Hell so much, Blank Generation is probably my favorite album of all time. You should add Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers to your list.

| I fooled around a little with Exene backstage at one of my shows in 1980. Her boyfriend (meybe he was her husband) was really jealous. Security wouldn't let him back there. She looked a little tired back then. How has she aged? |

This is between me and denis, for having blatantly insulted me out of the blue in anuzzer topic. So stay out. Insulting somebody like that is - to me- a paradigm of cowardice.( And stupidity in that case since we live in the same town.) So i take every chance i get to insult the little cunt back. And yes i'm considering crashing his face. Who decided you can insult people like that and get away with it? That's not the way i was raised (when i was a young boy, my mama always told me to take no shit. MF hit you, you better hit him back, like clipse put it).

I love this...you're complaining about him insulting you in another topic and how that's a sign of cowardice, so you're way of fighting back is to do the same thing in a completely unrelated topic when he wasn't even addressing you in a friendly or unfriendly manner. How exactly do you plan to "crash his face" as you so ineloquently put it? you don't even know where he lives. Why do teenagers on these forums always have to seem so macho? WTF???

Right, I forgot Thunders. I have this Sid Vicious boot where he sings a lot of JT songs, and the sound is really ugly, the record is unlistenable, but the songs are great.

Exene isn't looking to good these days. They had to use a much younger picture of her in the liner notes to her latest album with the Original Sinners. And that's a picture that people won't see till they've bought the album. If even then they can't handle her looks, you know something is wrong.
