I have a bad feeling about 2004 w/ the Reunion and the new album. It seems already that the Reunion is gonna be a big "let's fuck the fans deep in the ass" marketing shit (see the arguments about the tickets somewhere else on the forum and CroutonFuton points). Ok Frank's gonna get his big money, but something about the whole thing stinks. In addition, after several listens of six of the tracks from the forthcoming (Monkey, Where's my mind, Caribou, Into the white, Wave & nimrod) i can only say that if the album is gonna be that kind of remixing wankery, i will not spend 20euros on the shit. I can play the songs on my guitar and it's about just as interesting. Frank seems dead bored on the tracks. (to be honest, i myself am dead bored to hear the same fucking songs - in concert, compilations, best of and now remxied - again and again and again. It's like Macca played his songs from the white album again and again and again).
Obviously the Pixies ain't dead, they just smell funny.

Wow, maybe being a little harsh there, are we?
I don't think its any big mystery that everyone in the Pixies might very well be inclined to keep their best financial options in mind. Music is what they do for a living.
If you have a gripe with a ticket outlet, well, get in line bro! I know that when the Pixies finally decide to finish up a U.S. Tour and actually play near my area, I'll be going to every show I can drive to within 3 hours. And the only people fucking me in the ass will be Ticketmaster, not the awesome band I'm going there to see or the miles between me and the venue.
I personally haven't heard any of the Frank Black Francis tracks, and I'm probably going to wait till the album is officially released. I'm in no big rush. |

Nice to hear some healthy skepticism on this board for a change. I haven't heard these remixes you speak of, but I agree about being bored with the same songs. |

I certainly don't hope that they play the same "hit" songs during the reunion. Give me Rock Music and River Euphrates over Monkey and Wave any day |

Hey now... I don't blame the band for selling tickets, come on. But let me take an example of what i meant. Pixies are due to open for the Red Hot (Stinking) Chili Peppers at the parc des princes stadium (you can stack 60000+ suckers in there). So if you wanna see the heroes, it's gonna be about 40 minutes of music for the ticket price (and it's not gonna 15euro/$, more like 50, you can be sure). That's hard already. But if the pixmen go play Monkey, Wave And Caribou for the quadrillion time, then i am going to need a lot of snake oil, to ease the pain in my ass. That 's what i mean by marketing sodomy. and yes that is annoying. I can imagine people at marketing going "look at all these people still yearning for a reunion 11 years after they broke. let's fuck them big time. they 're so crazy about the band, they won't even notice". On the other hand, if there's new material, the venues ans ticket price are decent, then i'll be as happy as musician getting paid .... When the Velvet U reformed (briefly), they did that (except for the new material). See the difference ?

I have a feeling the stench is only coming from over sees (Europe). I'd be willing to bet the US shows don't garner as much interest. You'll probably be able to get airfare and a ticket for the Boise, ID show at the Big Easy for cheaper than what you'll pay to one of the scalpers (touts). Just my opinion.

I don't know. The Pixies are playing no shows in the east coast, which leads me to believe that it isn't marketing sodomy. I mean, the most Pixies fans would probably come to east coast shows, I think. |

I think you are going to be disappointed if you expect them to come up with anything original on this tour. Since the Pixies have not played anything at all for last 12 years the fans going along will be demanding their standards so the set list is going to look pretty much like the "Death to the Pixies" album track list.
What you should go along for is to see band crowd chemistry in action. I was at the 3 shows Frank did last year in London and the old Pixies numbers set the place on fire each time and I for one would be happy if that is all they played. If they can slip in a few new numbers great, but I think that is more likely to happen later in the year after they bedded down with each other again. If they do start producing new material then that is where the creative tensions between Frank and Kim are going to surface again and I just cannot see Frank giving Kim anymore creative space than she got before, but I hope I am wrong and they can hold it together for couple of years and get a couple of new albums out.

A lot of the arguments in here seem to be based mostly on conjecture, which is unfair. I can imagine some scenarios happening, such as the Chili Pepper's show w/ 40 minutes of Pixies playing a best-of set. It's possible. I doubt it, but I'll admit it's possible. But even if there is a show or two like that in this reunion, that doesn't mean the whole thing stinks. The good far outweighs any little bit of bad.

If anyone feels that it may disappointment, then fair enough; don't by the tickets or re-releases or what not. I doubt I'll buy any of the re-released material. Maybe I'm just a pixies whore or something, but I see -no- way in hell that I could possibly be disappointed by any of the shows that I choose to go to. Some may be better than other, but no disappoinments. -roger.

Worries, you're stupid, and your Tourette syndrome doesn't help appreciating you either. The Pixies are supposed to play at Le Zénith in Paris one week before the RHCP show, for 33 euros a ticket, which is very reasonable compared to the other concerts in this venue. Your messages are as ridiculous and insulting as the Liberation article you posted and criticized.

As regards the reunion, I don't care if they dig up John Bonham and his head falls off midshow. They come to Spain, I'll see you in the front row.

Petite tête molle,
Ton petit soulagement fini en message me laisse songeur.

The previous message is written i French on purpose,as non french readers may not be interested by my insult letter to the cunt denis. My point to that i find it a little hard to be called 'stupid' for trying to put in a little skecpticism and humour in this sometimes psychorigid forum. O well some people have a sense a humor (they have my love), but the cunt denis does not. Have a great day. |

Practice your French with babelfish:
<<Small soft head, Your small relief finished in message leaves me thoughtful. Can you sincerely think that I seek to make me appreciate while being (a little) skeptic in this perpetual hagiographic masturbation which this forum constitutes? You know what is a discussion? Did you only include/understand the humour which I put in my messages? Obviously not, also the stupid term must be returned to the sender. Now, since you have a so large mouth, without speaking about distinguished cowardice to insult somebody by interposed message indirectly, I would give you well return to spit myself with the mouth (and more), mouth which must be ugly and deformed. But I promised myself well not to walk more in the human shit. Cooked in your juice, illiterate.>>
and then
<<Small coprophage, one sees that are to you idiot, hein. If you want to raise the spelling mistakes, there is of them more one in my message. that does not remove anything with the pestilential stink which emanates from your fecal person.>>

Still readable and that which wasn't was entertaining in a cut-and-paste way. A damn sight better than Spanish on computer translation, comes out illegible.

je ne parle pas francias and I really don't care what these two have to say to each other.
I really like, however, that the french use "coprophage" (spelling?) as an insult. Very nice. That's a scientific word for shit-eater for all of youse out there that haven't gathered that by now.
Also, I have to say, you all must already know this but Babelfish doesn't produce good translations.

See what i mean by "trying to put in a little skecpticism and humour in this sometimes psychorigid forum" ? Champ, your ass is dripping vaseline obviously, you 're ready for marketing sodomy. My whole point was to draw attention on some things that are not a good sign to me (think i made it). But then again, everytime someone comes up with non 100%totallyfanatical statements about frank and the pixmen its "Grrr!! you're stupid ! you're not appreciated ! i'm sick of you! etc..." Same thing happened when i raised some criciticism about Frank's notsoperfect concert last november at the Bataclan. Got bashed the same way. Psychorigid fucks.
O well, if they don't like my little prose rockin' ruckus, i'll flip them the bird.

Worries, I'm a bit surprised to hear you call other fans "100%totallyfanatical", given the email you claim to have sent to a journalist who had the unfortunate idea to write comments about Frank's career that you didn't agree with.
Apart from that, I'm not very excited about the reunion myself, but I'll say it again, is it so shocking that the Pixies want to cash in on the legions of old and new fans yearning for a reunion? They didn't hit big time the first time around, why not give it another go and grab the cash while they still can...
It's not as if they'd announced that David would be replaced with Phil Collins or whatever...
Is the reunion "marketed"? You bet it is. Is it publicized? I guess we haven't seen anything yet. Is it wrong? Well, in my opinion, it depends on the product that's advertised. If the Pixies give bad performances all the ticket buyers will be entitled to bitch and moan their mouths off - but they haven't played yet, so wait and see. How can you tell them they're going to be fucked? Can you see the future? You say you have a bad feeling, well, I can understand that, but there's a difference between having a bad feeling and telling each and every person who got a ticket for the Pixies that they're suckers, that they're going to get it up the ass and ask for more.
And I should add, as long as the customer is happy, who gives a fuck?

OK jediroller let's take that step by step. 1. Indeed i am quite fanatical about frank and yes i insulted that bitch from Liberation because reading bullshit (i mean things that are irrelevant or false or just plain bullshit) about frank makes me angry. But the way i see it, we're all fans here, some kind of the definitive elite and i think we can allow ourselves to be bitchy at times (qui aime bien chatie bien). Just for the sake of discussion/argument damit. 2. I have no problem w/ the pixmen making the big bucks; they will never get enough money imo for what they did 15 years ago. It's just that i don't wanna pay an obscene amount of money to see them play a rotten 50 minutes best of in a outrageous venue, like it sure as fuck is going to be at the Parc. But i have no problem with paying 30euros to see them play a proper set w/ others things that deathtotthepixies live. I have to say i didn't know about that the zenith show when i posted first, so tell Denis to cool down. 3. the word "suckers" was not directed at the patrons here but at people paying 50euros to see the band from a 80meter distance (I think all the members here are my friends except for the hijodeunagrandaputa denis vilain -yes the one that never wipes out and likes it that way- and the stalinist sensitive noisy dave). 4. I'm not positive about whether i see the future or not. maybe. my grand grandmother was a feared prescient in her little african village not so long ago (i lie not). 5. I have no problemo w/ marketing, but i do resent marketing sodomy (again, the Parc des princes issue) 6. One of my points is the upcoming album; the six songs shitty remixs i heard are so fucking lame, i start to wonder if this is not a joke. I think people who listened to that 6 pieces pile of amphibian crap till the end understand what i mean by marketing sodomy.
