I acted like a dumbass and wiped out my hard drive, I did manage to backup the really important stuff that's irreplaceable. The only things I lost that I can't replace really are old emails and my web bookmarks, but the bookmarks are coming back to me slowly. So who else has pulled this same move or has lost a large portion of there stuff? It'd be comforting to hear some other peoples stories.

Ugh. Thoughts like this make me cringe and worry about backing my shit up. I only had one major hard drive crash, thank god. It was years ago, I had this 4GB drive (yeah, and I think I paid $400 for it)...I did some stupid shit and accidently wiped it out. All my roms and shit were GONE. I actually cried. It was horrible.

Yes, the bookmarks come back to one pretty quickly, with google assists as necessary. I'm on a five year old machine that caught some bug about eight months ago. Since then it's collapsed twice, and acts like another is imminent. But I've been backing up about twice a month for ages, and put most of my stuff on two external drives. The biggest pain is losing all the preferences and drivers and stuff like that. Man I hate tweaking all the software for the peripherals like printers, burners, scanners. So, I feel for you, but I think you'll get over it fairly soon. At this point I've grown to expect the damn thing to collapse sooner or later.

Sorry to hear you had some trouble. This is the very reason to have a DVD burner. It doesn't take long for an Outlook archive to grow larger than what a CD can hold and besides, bigger is better baby. Having a home network also makes for a good backup system. And a great gaming system! Woot!
