I'll get Pistolero tomorrow. Ordered it yesterday, so it should come. It's the last of the FB&C -albums I was missing. I'm so happy to get it, but also a bit sad. Soon I won't have the feeling of waiting for to get it anymore. You all propably know the feeling. Or maybe you don't and I'm just a sick freak, thinking about things like this constantly. However, any reviews of Pistolero in the internet?

Now I'm just employed

Pisteloro was my first
and I love it!

but I know what feeling treo is describing here
as a GBV fan you should have their classic Bee Thousand
But I still have not
I just want to wait

perhaps
just because it feels good to wait

Pistolero rules - to this day it's arguably my favorite FB&C album. Enjoy.

Possessing the whole catalogue of Catholics music can be both a blessing (you've got it all) and a curse (there's nothing left to lust after.)

yeah...Pistolero hardly gets much 'press time' in this forum but it has some of the bands best on it. 'bad harmony' is top 10 easily.

Love it now, but it took some time to get to that stage. About 3-4 spins.

Western Star is great. TOTY is the ONLY FB album i loved right off the bat. the others i needed 3-4 spins to really get in to.

Best Songs on Pistolero:

Bad Harmony (a CLASSIC Catholics song, imho)

Western Star

Tiny Heart

Billy Radcliffe

So Hard To Make Things Out

So. Bay

and Cult of Frank's proposed sink-in time of 3-4 spins is about right. The sheer fucking rock beauty of this record is hard to absorb in the first couple of listens. it will grow on you like a benign tumor, my friend.

So. Bay is like one of Frank's all-time best songs. I am quite envious of you being able to hear it for the first time and go through that initial rush of realizing how awesome it is.

Western Star is also amazing.

My third favourite on the CD seems to be quite controversial, but I love Skeleton Man. Love it. The riff, tone, chorus, everything.

You are in for a treat.

I think I loved Pistolero from the first listen...it was the second album I ever bought from FB (I think). I bought it the day it came out, which is always exciting. I Switched You floored me, So Hard To Make Things Out was my favorite for a while, and So. Bay sealed the deal. It's such a fantastic album, probably their most rockin.

Western Star is often considered the best song from this album...It won the survivor, and I think I sew an internet poll with a bunch of Frank songs; Western Star got a VERY high rating.

IF you already ordered the CD why would you care about reviews?....you will have your chance to review it shortly. (Please tells us how you like it....make sure you listen to it at least 7 times!).
Plus the reviews (thanks for the links mun chien) are all the most piss pour reviews I have taken the time to read....incredibly superficial and just plain ignorant.

The you have some goofball from Spain who has obviously never heard Devil's Workshop....but it's all good! <g>

Enjoy,

I love the record too. I think the first third is great, and the last third or so is great. The middle kind of loses me.

Pistolero was my first Frank Black album. The reason I think it sometimes gets overlooked is more of a reflection on how brilliant all of Frank's other stuff is than it is on Pistolero. I do think it's one of his best...but that of course includes any album he's done.

I think the Frank album that took the least time to grow on me was DITS, although the orangey-yellow one comes close. Pistolero might be my least favorite overall, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have its share of excellent songs, including Western Star, Billy Radcliffe, So Hard To Make Things Out, I Think I'm Starting To Lose It, and (at least for me) Skeleton Man. Most of the other songs are pretty good, but don't blow me away as much as a lot of Frank's catalog.

And as for not having anything else to look forward to, well, there are always EPs, right?

I loved Pistolero when I first received it, but it's since become my second least-favorite Caths album (the first being Cult) - I still dig both albums, however! Also, Skeleton Man is one of the best songs of Frank's career, no matter what the naysayers, uh, say.

I think it's one of the best "driving" CDs of Frank's

Right after it came out I drove 12 hours and back and listened to it over and over again, maybe that's why I think that, but I still think it is a good driving CD.

Maybe the people who don't like Pistolero just haven't listened to it enough. It's ace.

Although Billy Radcliffe makes me cycle too fast.

Just coz I'm new doesn't mean I'm just here for the Pixies updates.

yeah, i wouldn't tell it so straight, but basically i feel the same. Pistolero has a terrible sound, imo. it really hurts my ears - too loud, too much distortion. and most of the songs are pretty much average.

Must admit I was not mad on Pistelro at first and it actually took me a lot more than 5, ie 20 listens to really get into it. I do agree Western Star, Billy Radcliffe & Skelton Man are my favs but the best moment of all is the screaming in 'I think Im starting to lose it' - it reminds me of NO. 13 baby.

And if your sad becasues its the the last FB&C album dont forget you can make a complilation of B-sides,covers, bonus tracks etc - theres 3 to 4 albums worth of material!

pistolero was for ages my favourite of his solo albums.
with the 3 great epics - i switched you, so hard to make things out and so.bay just blowing my mind, along with the fabulous shorter ones, ie billy radcliffe.
but it hasn't lasted for me.
sure, the great ones are still great, but the not so great ones have become really mediocre.
has a large amount of filler i feel. hence why i now skip from end of so hard.. to so.bay

but i think so.bay and so hard.. are 2 of his best songs.

and i love the production on the album. i really like the "loud" sound.
it really suits many of the songs, whereas the more softly approach as on dits would have left the songs feeling flat.

The record didn't come today. I thought about it all the day at work, cycled in the freezing cold weather with a smile on my face, and the mail box is empty. I changed my opinion; I wouldn't be sad anymore to get it, not at all. Very much the opposite.---
Just waiting for the tomorrow now. Of course this happens during my sober month. Well, of course, usually I don't have money to purchase cd's.---
Your opinions about Pistolero were very interesting to read, some of you liked it, some even hated. I'm not scared about the quality of that album. DW, which was somehow my least favourite, is at this moment sounding so great. Can't put the albums in any order really. Or the songs.---
There are B-sides and staff still to catch, it's just quite hard to get those here. Oh I wish for official compilations of rare stuff, but I'm not sure if I wish it more than new material. Fuck I'm confused.---
Hopefully tomorrow won't be just another black letter day. Already got me so down I got me a headache. Luckily I donät have to work tomorrow, I can concentrate on waiting. Tic, tic, tic, tic, listen -time is running.
