Not mentioned yet?
John McLaughlin Malcolm & Angus Danny Gatton Tom Scholz Billy Corgan
And boil me in oil, but Steve Vai's Alien Love Secrets album is one of the most emotional performances I've ever heard on the guitar. No 500 track overdubs-just one guitar every song. Shred? Yeah, but with a point.

Huddie Ledbetter, or Leadbelly. The King of the 12-string. If you don't believe me just listen to him... My God.

Martha Promise: Damn straight. Leadbelly rocks my socks. In the pines...In the pines! Where the sun don't ever shine; I would shiver the whole night through...

I saw Dick Dale open for the surf punks at the Santa Monica civic in 1980. He ROCKED! |

If you're going to have Leadbelly, you should have Robert Johnson for sure. That man could twang... Good job we're not talking about technical proficiency here, cos Kurt Cobain wouldn't come within a country mile. In terms of raw feeling vented through a guitar, though, few come close.

Chuckle! But seriously, folks, ther is a difference between technical competance and artistic ability...you've got your Steve Vai's on one side, and yer Kurt Cobain's on the other...not that Vai dos'nt have any artistic ability, but you see my point, non?
CARL.

Yes. Good Point. Some people revel in technical minutia. Some could give a kick unless it sounds pretty.
Hendrix had both in excess. |
