Ok, so you charge up the battery of your electric car and start heading for the motorway. Now if you attach some kind of dynamo to the wheels, surely you could store the kinetic energy and use it to further propel the car? I guess what I'm trying to say is, once you'd charged the battery once why would you need to charge it from an external power supply ever again? |

I'm no expert, but you loose energy from friction/heat and whatnot, so not all energy that went into powering the car would be transferred to the dynamos. the output of the dynamos would recycle down to nothing....
....i think.... (i knew i shouldnt have visited 'general chat' this morning )

thanks for replying misleadtheworld...
i guess you wouldn't get a 100% energy conversion because like you say you'd loose a fair amount to heat etc.. but i still think you should be able to recoup a fair amount back.
anyway, you're a left-handed guitarist aren't you mr world? unless it's a common username, i'm sure i saw you on another website talking about a left-handed jaguar?
if you're a right-handed bc rich kinda guy i apologise for such insinuations :)

im sure you'll get a more technical answer sooner or later. suspiciously, the guys here really seem to know their shit.
heh yes, that was most likely me, as i dont believe anyone else uses my username, and i am left handed and like jaguars. im certainly not a 'right handed bc rich kinda guy'. no offence to anyone who is, but i am not. !.
it wouldnt it be the jag-stang forums you saw me hmm? i lurk around there sometimes.

yes, i think it was on one of the jag-stang forums that i saw you.
So do you have a left-handed jaguar/jagstang? i don't think i've ever seen a left-handed jaguar that was affordable.
i'm looking for a second left-handed electric guitar at the moment...something with a bit of personality and preferably reasonably inexpensive.

i do have a lefty jaguar yep. i really dont like the jag-stang. i was quite lucky with the jag, i got it shipped from america with a case all for about £450ish i believe (inc shipping). its a sunburst one, and is about 8 years old. its in great condition too. its rediculous, the price of lefty jaguars, and any lefty's at that. i got quoted £800+ for a lefty red jag from fender japan, what a joke! i could probably get a vintage for that off ebay or something. you should keep your eye out on ebay by the way. especially american ebay, for cheap guitars. the dollar is strangely weak against the pound at the minute, meaning great savings even after import tax. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3702469974&category=2384 < here is a lefty jag, in the UK too. fellow fb.net-er 'homers_pet_monkey' was after it last time it was listed. it didnt make its hefty £750 reserve though. i dont think it has a case either. crazy!

Misleadtheworld is pretty much dead on... there's no such thing as 100% efficiency in transferring energy, much less storing it. The energy wouldn't be stored during cruise speeds since this energy must come from somewhere, and attempting to store the car's 'moving energy' would result in an effect analogous to braking.
That said, the idea is a very good one, however, and similar flywheel systems have been devised which store much of the energy used when braking (as opposed to relying directly on friction) to convert kinetic energy to potential energy and then back again when the accelerator is pushed.
This is by no means a perfect solution as flywheels and the like work by moving mass, meaning they must be quite heavy to really store a lot of energy (lighter models work since you can compensate to some degree by spinning a lighter alloy wheel faster) but for the moment, potential gains from storing braking energy are offset by the space that is occupied, the weight carried, and the complexity of the system. I imagine that 15 years from now we'll start to see them in consumer automobiles in a refined state, but there's still a bit of work to be done.
Hope that helps.

Thanks Cult Of Frank - that makes sense.
So misleadtheworld you got a lefty jag for £450 eh? That sounds like a pretty good deal.
I've been using a L/H patrick eggle new york for years but i could really do with a second/replacement guitar for gigging.
I always fancied a red jag with matching headstock but to no avail, i may go for a Danelectro U2 or a Dipinto Mach IV...

To be able to do that scientists would have had to perfect Cold Fusion. As of now perpetual motion is only a theory though there are some interesting experiments out there and a bunch of frauds.

$1,000,000 to the first person who successfully invents something that converts energy with 100% efficiency. |

if remember correctly my thermodynamics in classic physics theory the maximum energy conversion possible is around 33% and even the most modern engines are far below that.i don't know if new theories have come out since my physics course but i doubt it.
