My only exposure to them is 'Where You Been'. I have to admit the first time I listened to it I thought WTF, I could sing better than that.
But the songwriting is amazing and the lead guitar is unbelievable. In certain songs the voice works, but in others it can be hard to listen to.
However, when its all said and done I like it enough to buy another CD. Can anybody recommend a good follow up?

Well, I've heard a lot of Dinosaur albums, but I mostly know their material from the Best of Dinosaur - Ear Bleeding Country album. Bug is a pretty good album, it's got Freak Scene, a classic Dinosaur song.
It's funny you should say you didn't like J's voice at first. I've never thought it was all that bad. In fact, I think it's one of the best voices in modern music.

I just downloaded Freak scene as I was interested in hearing them. It was ok, nothin special.

I am a huge D.J. fan. Okay, you need "Green Mind" and J. Mascis, "Martin and Me". After those two you'll buy the rest. They're all great stuff!
I actually date this girl that went to school with J, in North Hampton Ma. She tells me he was a kind of strange. I tell her she was kind of stupid. |

| My brother has Green Mind, some good songs on that. I like Start Choppin' (have it on 7" vinyl). Was'nt Freak Scene like they're Teenage Riot/Teen Spirit? J.Mascis has a problem with his arm and has to rub ice on it...too much tense, stinging solos! He sings on a version of the Breeders' 'Do You Love Me Now?', I think he produced that. Apparently, he has a new album out. |
