The Woody Allen thread somehow got me thinking about Mr.Glover whom I think is pretty damn cool. But I haven't seen all of these, anyone care to comment on which ones are a waste of time and/or which ones are grrreat?

I like him in the Back to the Future movies - he's perfect for that part. But he's so creepy! It is hard to tell where all his darker parts end and where he begins. As the Thin Man in Charlies Angels - they perfectly nailed how weird and icky he can be.

He is strange, I think that's why I like him. Did you see the David Letterman show when he was on? hilarious.
I had no idea he was in a Friday the 13th movie! |

I think I saw clips of that David Letterman - didn't he do something really odd? I can't remember.
I don't remember him at all in some of those movies, (Nurse Betty? Twister??) which is weird. Maybe he is much more versitile than I am giving him credit for.

ya me neither, strange.
He tried to do some big karate kick on Dave, was quite funny. I think he had just powdered his nose or something... |

You meant he did a little blow?
He was all cocained out and took a karate kick to "the man who doesn't like to be touched" s head.
Not probably one of the smartest moves you could make on Letterman. |

Crispin! I love the man! Such a demented genius, he is
ok, Ramona..Carolyn Anna...to answer your conundrum, Crispin was indeed in Twister. But it's not the big-budget tornado movie you all are thinking of. Actually, the movie might be quite hard to find. It includes Harry Dean Stanton and that guy from the Practice when he was still a shitty second-rate actor. the movie sucks horrid balls, but WATCH IT. trust me. Crispin is HILARIOUS in it. It's, like, his definitive role! Track it down...if you are a Crispin fan, you will not regret it
check out Reuben & Ed, too. that movie is a good laugh. plus, Frank alludes to it in "Kicked in the Taco."
Crispin on Letterman...so damn funny! He blurs the lines between his "act" and his deeply-rooted eccentricism. That is his success.
It's great to see other people appreciating Crispin, the mad genius! |

Was'nt he in Full Metal Jacket? He has a strung out, nerdish-serial killer vibe...he's great in Back To The Future...I saw Friday the 13th Final Chap. again recently(a friend is a big fan).

I was about to write "is his wife a porn star?" and then I read the photo caption. Weird. He must be good in the sack or something. He looks freakier than usual in that photo.
He has a severe case of Manson lamps.

Mr. Glover has written two books which I believe are still in circulation, but are very expensive and hard to find. They were both penned in 1991:
OAK MOT
and
RAT CATCHING
These are both surreal stream-of-consciousness ramblings of David Lynch-ish hokum...random arcane phrases and darkly funny musings followed by scribbles and doodles. I highly recommend for those younger folks who sit around in turtlenecks and drink coffee at night thinking they're discovering something new (been there/done that...wow! I sound cynical and old! HA HA HA!) Sorry. In a bad mood.
Also, did anyone know that Crispin's father is ALSO strange, if not stranger than his son? The man is an institute of all-that-should-be-wrong-but-is-right-with-acting. His name is Bruce Glover and has appeared since the 60's in television and film. Probably best known for his portrayal as Mr. Wint in the 1971 007 film Diamonds Are Forever.
Anyhow, check out the books and check out Dad Glover.
By the by, I love Crispin's underrated performance in What's Eating Gilbert Grape?

Crispin was about the only good part of Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, it's a worthless movie. I never even saw the first one. My girlfriend wanted to see it in the theatre so I went, anticipating a stupid movie. Then, in the opening credits, I see John August's name as one of the writers (if not the only writer) of the screenplay, so I think, "Oh, well, this will be great. He wrote GO, which I really like." But then 90% of the movie sucked REALLY horribly. Just pointless crap. So I went in expecting crap, then my hopes went up, only to be shot down. Really frustrating. John August wrote Big Fish, which I liked a helluva lot more. My faith in his writing has been restored.

Charlies Angels: Full Throttle was extreamly retarded. There was no story - just a series of fight scenes (which were okay) and a lot of gratutitous T&A (which is also okay, sometimes). I was so bored! You should rent the first one sometime, while it is not a masterpiece of cinema, it is MUCH better than the second one. Crispin Clover has a couple good sequences and Sam Rockwell is awesome, I love love love his dance sequence at the end. Plus, you can't go wrong with Bill Murray.

A scene that I just remembered that struck me as really strange was where the Angels were doing a strip kinda dance on stage, kind of erotic stuff, I don't remember too much about it, but what I do know is that there was NO music playing during the scene, which made it awkward since the film was so loud the rest of the time with all sorts of music playing. Suddenly, it's just dead quiet with these women dancing on stage for something like 4 minutes. It was bizarre. Really slowed down the pace of the film. Not that it was being paced all that well anyway.

Well, maybe since there's usually music when strippers do erotic dances, but not during regular day-to-day events, they're switching it up on us. It's a clever reversal of expectations.
Either that or the movie is crap. Either way works.

Although it is a very fucked up movie - nobody can act the way he acts, weird!!! |

I've seen "River's Edge" about a dozen times. It was mostly filmed around my old neighborhood in Tujunga/Sunland California. That film pretty well captures the apathy of American teenhood. Crispin shines as a stoner with a Baja Bug.
I enjoyed the "Willard" remake. |

Hells fuckin yeah. Way to go, Crispin
On a side-note...has anyone seen the movie that he put out a couple of years ago? He directed & produced it. I think it's called "What Is It?" Supposedly, the cast is predominantly composed of mental retards, and there are scenes involving Nazism, S&M, and whips.
Crazy shit.
Also, a friend of mine heard one of Crispin's albums in its entirety, and said that it is some whack, avant-garde stuff. I'm curious to hear his music... |

Crispin is usually the best part of any movie he's in.
if you can find it you should check out RUBIN AND ED. that's truly one of the most bizarre films i've ever seen. the basic premise of the plot is Rubin (Crispin) looking for a place to bury his recently dead cat, which he carrys around in an ice box. |

not much of a movie.the first part is entertaining but it gets boring as it goes on.

Some of it's kind of like TMBG.. but thats not a great comparison. The songs were done with the help of Barnes and Barnes.. but I dunno that I've heard any of their stuff.
