pardon the bad pun as well. I couldn't resist :)
that should clear up any Debaser Remix queries anyway! |

ok, so now that i've had my lunch, i can comment....
so all dttp songs are included, but just another 6 added. (vamos, winterlong, alec eiffel, allison, broken face + hey) seems a bit weird to me....
i realise it is going to be very relevant now with the reunion, but why a brand new one if it's only got the same songs as the old one, but a few more?
but i am glad it starts off with bone machine....
and jo, are all the songs remastered, cause wasn't dttp remastered? cause i think the songs on dttp sound fantastic - much better than on the albums...

basically, the US when DTTP was on Elektra, was still a double cd. Everywhere else it was the UK single cd version... so since we've got the rights back, it made sense to re-do the Best Of, but make it a proper across-the-catalogue one, including b-sides, because DTTP didn't really cover that.. (you didn't spot 'Into the White' has been added!) - so there's one definitive version worldwide, rather than dropping the US down to the single version (which I don't think worked that well anyway, this tracklisting does sound better...)

i just can't add jo.....and read....
well thanks for explaining all that too me - it makes more sense now.
i'm personally not a fan of chronological tracklistings, but the dttp one was very bad i thought..... lets hope this one works better....
nb: i was listening to my own b-sides cd on the way to work yesterday, which includes all the b-sides from everything tracked alphabetically, so winterlong was last, and i thought to myself that it was actually a really good closer to a disc... except for the fade out at the end - i hate fades.

I'm shocked to not see Motorway to Roswell on there (especially after it was voted number one Pixies song here!) but it looks pretty good. Bone Machine is a great choice as opener, Winterlong a delicious closer. Into The White is a pleasant surprise inclusion and a good choice since FB has taken to it lately.
Now if only you had bundled it with "Hey - A Pixies Tribute" you'd sell them by the barrelfull. :) Which reminds me, have you had a chance to hear it yet? I have to send out a few this month to various parties anyway, so drop me an email if you need a copy.

nope, no release dates yet... hopefully soon - we don't normally set dates until we've got artwork (v23 are still working on it) - hopefully we'll have some idea soon - I'd think (and I have nothing to back this up) it'll be April onwards - (ie not March!) - as soon as we know anything I'll post dates! |

i'll add my voice to the 'no motorway to roswell' complaints... it's a shame it always seems to be overlooked, i personally think it's one of the best songs they did. my only one complaint is maybe it's a little heavy, with all the electric guitars and stuff, but the piano at the end is magical, and just a fantastic song... shame it's not on there... good to see 'hey' and 'alec eiffel' on there though.

Good tracklist there. The most important songs are there I think, though I'd miss Manta Ray and River Euphrates. Can't say that any of the songs on it doesn't belong there, though... |

i'd rather see the happening on there than dig for fire... but dig for was a single i believe... so i guess it's only right.

I know old Bobby Fleckman's quote holds true, but this sounds like too much of a commercial venture. Are Pixies Fans getting anything that they don't already have. I'm gonna buy the DVD - I got a player just for it - But even with that, we've gotten the Gouge Docu off the telly |

you've never seen the Pixies On The Road documentary. That is my favourite bit of the entire DVD - I'd buy it for that alone, it is that good
ok, that probably sounds like I'm over-selling it. But we watched it ages ago, and I almost cried, it was that good. I never cry. |

OK people enough is enough - no more complaints. We could be here all year and beyond complaining about the track-listing. Let's just be happy with what IS on it 'cos like Douglas said, they are all worthy of inclusion. At the end of the day most of us own everything they have ever done anyway so it doesn't really matter does it?
Let's see our glasses as half full, not half empty eh? |

why is ... not on it???? because it's not on it!!!
HA!
i've made my personal Pixies best of-CD almost a year ago. it's entitled
THE ARCHWAY OF AERODYNAMICS - Essential Pixies: 1.Cecilia Ann 2.Wave of Mutilation 3.The Holiday Song 4.I Bleed 5.Trompe le Monde 6.Debaser 7.Dig for Fire 8.Gigantic 9.In Heaven (BBC Session) 10.Alec Eiffel 11.Velouria 12.Bone Machine 13.Winterlong 14.Gouge Away 15.Where is my Mind? 16.Allison 17.Wild Honey Pie (BBC Session) 18.Rock A My Soul 19.Here comes your Man (Purple Tape) 20.Broken Face 21.Letter to Memphis 22.Levitate Me 23.Caribou 24.Planet of Sound 25.The Happening 26.U-Mass 27.Wave of Mutilation (UK Surf) 28.I can't forget 29.Monkey gone to Heaven
Aprox. running time 80 min
I always ask myself why the space of a cd is not fully used on so many best of albums. |

What is the Violent Femmes one like? I thought about buying something of theirs for a while now but only managed to get as far as downloading about 20 of their songs off Kazaa.
Also been thinking about Sleater Kinney recently too. |

I don't think that there is any reason for a band to have TWO best-of albums, let alone one of which is just the first one with a few extra tracks thrown in.

What about I Can't Forget or Born In Chicago. I'd love to have those on a real CD instead one of my own mixes. I wish they'd get put on an official release.

The Violent Femmes "best of" CD (titled Add It Up) is great. In my top 10 favourite CDs of all time. The only regret I have about the CD is that they didn't include Ugly instead of a song like Vancouver. At any rate, it's definitely worth listening to, and there's a great live version of Ugly on their Viva Wisconsin album that almost makes up for the "best of" omission. |
