So I know that they did back-up for beck for awhile.....but what is the story with these mini-album releases...I loved their first big release in the early nineties and then they seemed to fade into obscurity...and then these three new albums....any back-story? These albums are fucking awesome! (Fight Test, Ego Tripping at The Gates of Hell, Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots)

the only back story I know of is that they're basically singles off the album Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots....and the flaming lips are not the kind of band to release a single without tons of extras, soooooo....

damnit, why can't I get into The Soft Bulletin!? I've had it for years and just can't make myself like it but I love Yoshimi. I think I'll just sell Bulletin.

listening to zaireeka (with 4 discs) is a real trip. the Flaiming Lips are definitely huge fans of sonic experimentation

I just recently recieved The Soft Bulletin for my birthday. If you get the chance, go out and get it. You won't regret it. Its a great album, although I did have a bit of trouble getting into it.

realmean, I want to implore to you not to sell that album. The Soft Bulletin is one of the greatest albums of all time. It is about Love.
I don't know you well or what you listen too but keep it. We can talk about it if you want. I wish there was a way I could let you experience it like I do. Then you'd want 14 copies.
I don't know why 14 but you know what I mean. |

Im personally not even a marginal fan, but I like the very last song on that Clouds taste metallica record. I can't think of the title...it's the last one with the big stomping drum track.

I checked Yoshimi out from the library a few months ago, and I liked it right away. I really don't know that much else by the Flaming Lips, but I'm definitely curious.

Haha, okok Goddess. Thanks for your concern. It means a lot when a person cares enough to be willing to talk about music because they just know it is too great to be without. But I HAVE had it for years now and still it rubs me the wrong way. Granted, I haven't listened to it much but I don't see me growing into it. Well talk, eh?

Transmission from the Satellite Heart is my favorite Lips. In a Priest Driven Ambulance is pretty good, too. |

i have tried to like the flaming lips, but i cannot. i thought going to see them in concert last year would help, but it didn't - ended up being the worst gig of the year.
so i have officially given up trying to be a fan. is a bit tricky cause my brother-in-law (whom i live with) is a HUGE fan, and is always talking about them. i have to act interested or else i might hurt his feelings.... ah, the pain.

....just tell him that he cannot pick up the subtletys in music like you can, and that you are superior in everyway except for hot dog eating.....that should go over well...

Clouds Taste Metallic = genius. I borrowed it off someone a few days ago and have been listening to it nonstop. It's really weird having "Evil Will Prevail" stuck in your head; so eerie, the lyrics. I'd love to hear the Lips play the entire album live.
