Ok, this is a bit contrary, but dose anyone feel that chatting over the net is bit like picking at your navel sometimes? Do you feel its a bit sad, sometimes...or is it no more a waste of time then watching TV/doing a crossword, or actually even an good, informative resource?
I kind of feel, like almost everything else, its okay in moderation.

Well, I have a strange belly button where it makes this weird squishy feeling when I press it, and lately I've developed a bad habit of pushing at it to make that squishy feeling, but it's fun. That's close to picking at my navel.

I don't see how it's any more of a waste of time than most other things, and, unlike TV and crosswords, you're often conversing with actual people. (At least, I THINK you're all actual people. I could be wrong.)

I'm not a real person. I'm really a figment of someone else's imagination. Seriously. Oy, maybe I'm the Swimmer?

I made three of my best friends from this box and so I definetly don't think it is a waste of time. Sometimes talking online where you can generally only use words makes it much easier to get to know someone. I guess there is less bullshit or something. Of course, it depends on the people b/c I have seen a lot of bullshit on the chat areas as well.

And while we are talking about bullshit, The Swimmer was removed. Good riddance.

If it weren't for chatting on the internet, I wouldn't be living in PA and I wouldn't have met the greatest girl in the world.

I see what you're saying but I have met (just) one person from online and that has made it worth it. Other people who I've talked to have enlightened me in other ways and so I think my time was better spent than it could have been. Most of what is said on msg boards like this is glanced over. What I'm writing right now, for instance, will be glossed over by a few, closely read by fewer, and so internet discussion should be kept to a minimum so as to avoid wasting time. On the other hand, a message board like this functions as a sort of network. Here we all have at least one mutual interest and we can rely on each other for tons of information.

Well, Imma end this before I waste my life.

I agree. I met one of my best friends on line as well. And besides, there are great people in the world that would probably never in a million years encounter in person.

It's just a past time and a way to get some decent conversation (some of the time).
You don't have to worry about someone judging you for your hair or the way you look. They can read your thoughts and ideas and decide if they gibe that way.

Though I would think it would be safe to say that just because someone appears to be one way on this forum, you can't take that as a true, three dimensional portrait of a person. You are only getting the side he/she chooses to show. The only way for people on a forum such as this to get around all that is to go with completely genderless, non-race-related names and profiles. That way you wouldn't have the bull-oney that occurs normally in these kinds of situations.

But, no one on here KNOWS anyone untill they meet them in person and interact with them. That idea has permitted me to take certain things that people say on this forum in stride whereas I might not have in the past. I can say I am a truly different person on here because of that.

With all that in mind...posts are like life. Just because someone jokes all the time, doesn't mean he/she can't have a serious post once in a while without people jumping on him. A person can't be 24/7 on all the time. People have good days and bad days. Some people are not AFRAID to show their emotions to other people, especially when they feel like they have a bond, albeit small. to people in a forum/community.

So, basically, no. Internet talkin' is NOT a waste of time. It's an extension of real life with a heavy caveat.

you just have to worry about people like Goddess being too serious

for example, Goddess could have a fun-loving side none of us know about because she always takes everything so serious on the forum

because "take in stride" means to totally misinterpret and get offended by (for those of you who weren't aware of THAT definition)

holy crap I'm not even sure where to start with this one!

only it's alot easier to be misinterpretted, especially when people are overly sensitive

actually, I had forgotten about him until just now. he diiiid start a lot of fights so I suppose he could be considered the Hitler of the forum by some but that's too harsh. We'll save that title for Ebb.

The Swimmer was a character on the boards not too long ago. He made a lot of enemies but also a lot of friends it seems. I was rather indifferent to him and since I rarely noticed how arguments began I reserved judgment.

I've noticed that most arguments are usually the result of sperm ("it tastes gross", "you were supposed to pull out", things of that nature) and so I imagine he was to blame for the majority of arguments on this forum

No, as opposed to the type of belt that people wear around their waists. A caveat would be a type of sash worn around your stomach area.

Since mcmikey has no email.......

It's funny, when I say something without a joke in it, you say I am being too serious.

When I am joking, you say that I am being a bitch.

Yet you make cracks about seducing me.

Why do you think your opinion so great that you have to be my personal watchdog? That you have to comment on everything I write? The only time I can think of boys acting this way is grade school when they have a crush on someone.

What do you want? I am not your toy.

I try to let you slide and joke around with you on your posts but you keep going. You took my whole response to this post and turned it into your little playground.

I am not mad or anything, I am just confused at why you want to give all that attention to whatever I write?

So again, I ask, what do you want?

I want you to be somewhat consistent. Your post above made no sense in context of your normal posting attitude. I was merely pointing that out. I have yet to call you a bitch, or make cracks about seducing you as far as I can recall.

Can't you two see that you love each other? You wouldn't rile each other up so if it weren't for the intense bond between you. Now go make babies.

Truth is, I saw a picture of him with his shirt off. I think he was sailing and was tying off some rigging or whatever sailors do.

Well, the way the abs on that boy rippled with intensity, the sheer determination, I could see it in the pained expression on his face.

It was then I had to have him.

He told me he liked it when I got all in a snit. He said my eyes sparkle.

Call me a fool but I believed him. Now we back and forth...we tug of war if you will except he doesn't know that it's my heart were using as a rope.

He doesn't know that my hands sometimes get burned with the constant tugging and back and forth and oi it burns with the smell and the ointment and the hey lady.

If he would give me his private email address, I would write him some steamy, touch yourself inducing letters, but so far it has been all in vain.
