You all have good points. What I find truly silly is that these names are born out of oversensitivity (which I wholeheartedly agree comes mainly from white liberals who singlehandedly invented the term politically correct). That oversensitivity seems to stem from a deep concern about things that don't directly concern people. In other words, the past as it ties in with people who share your bloodline who lived hundreds of years ago whom I never met, and I absolutely refuse to take any association with. Know what I mean? People should only be concerned with themselves, and yes, the "content of one's character". Not with a bunch of shit that has nothing to do with them. Referring to yourself and having a large amount of pride in terms of color or race is just as stupid as not liking someone because their color or race does not match yours. Im not white, Im not caucasion, I am Interloper. To hell with history. History is just that, dead and gone. As a small other tidbit, don't gender, race, and sexuality specific gatherings and marches seem a little counterproductive to the notion of equality? Where's the "cynical intelligent person parade"? On the flipside of that, ponder that it may be biologically impossible for us all to be equal. I don't mean equally in terms of how each "group" is treated, but equally in biological terms. Is equality even the real goal here? If it is, then we're all headed for that great big Huxleyesque "utopia" in the sky. Seems to me that subjectivity and differences might be positive aspects of life. We are people, people are animals, don't ever forget that because we act exactly like them. The ability to think and read and drive cars, and have slow langorous sex in drive in movie theatres is hardly a civilized advancement for us petty animals. We still run in packs, fight for food and space, and breed like rats.
Shit, I gotta go, American Idol is on.
