Pure speculation, but...

The "Special Guest" at the San Jose show was Macy Gray.
She actually put on a pretty freakin' good show; I was pleasantly surprised! |

I mention it since there was speculation back in Decemeber that the unannounced "special guest" was going to be the Pixies. I think they had to announce it as Macy Gray so there wouldn't be any disappointed Pixies fans demanding a refund or anything. |

It's probably gonna be the Pixies.

Let us hope. I could easily see Bowie joining them for a song or two. :D

Well Macy Gray has been the support at every show of the tour so far (the Dandy Warhols did the Euro leg). She can't be a surprise any more!

Well, it would be a terrible decision, IMO. At leats at the SJ show, the audience was overwhelmingly older Bowie fans, with a small precentage (10 - 15%) of under 40 fans sprinkled in.
When Macy Gray started, the arena was about 3/4 empty. The atmosphere was indifferent, and the sound was bad since it was so echoey. It was a great show, and fans started filling up the place toward the end, but the audience clearly didn't care who the opening act was at all.
What would be the point of a reunion tour opening for a largely nostalgic older crowd who isn't going to show up for you and probably doesn't even know who you are?
I love Bowie and the Pixies, but I was clearly one of the few that had even heard Bowie's excellent new album. Most of the people seemed to want to hear greatest hits and stuff from Ziggy Stardust.
Oh, and Bowie not only played 'Cactus' but he also played 'I've Been Waiting for You' which is a Neil Young song, but one that the Pixies also covered :-) |

I don't think the Pixies should open for anyone, they should only do this reunion thing as headliners IMO. |

Yeh, 'Cactus' has been a staple of the last two tours.
The funny thing was at Frank's Camden show, where he was supported by Kirsteen Young (Bowie's protegée) a load of BowieNetters had turned up in support. Went mad pogoing to 'Cactus', as if Frank was covering a Bowie song.
