I have to work Saturday mornings as a dispatcher and I get to watch TV. I've feel like a kid again watching my Saturady Morning Lineup! Does anyone here watch the cartoons, either with your kids or by yourself? I was starting to get real down on contemp. toons but there are a few that I really enjoy. I've liked Jackie Chan Adventures for a while (Jackie's Chantastic Chinese New Year:) and I've recently taken to Teen Titans. Anyone know the story behind that show? Were all of the characters besides Robin created for the hsow? I especially like Beast Boy. Also, I noticed that someone here was talking about Astro Boy the other day. I just saw the new Astro Boy cartoon. Not too impressed but I'll give it a few weeks. Anyhoo, for some reason I felt compelled to talk about these toons as I've been watching the old X-Men series lately and am rekindling my love of Saturday Mornings.

Jackie Chan doesn't do his own voice for the cartoon, does he?

I'm almost postitive he does. Plus he appears in person at the end of the show like Howie Mandel did for Bobby's World.

Amazingly enough, "the Littles" are returning to Saturday morning, apparently. I was amazed. Does anyone else remember them? They were little humanoid rat-like creatures with pointy ears and tails. It must've been about 20 years or so since they've been on.

I didn't watch Saturday morning cartoons even when I was 6 years old.

Y'all must have cable if you are watching Saturday Morning Cartoons. Cause it is pretty desolate on "regular" TV these days.
I remember when I was growing up you could see a million cartoons on the three boring networks, but now it is the very bottom of the barrel. They should bring back School House Rocks in the AM and Looney Toons! What is WRONG with the world today?

I used to religously watch the X-Men cartoon series for at least a year. I remember the first episode had this generic character named Morph who was clearly created to be killed. I think he came back later cuz he hadn't really died and he'd turned to the badside. It was just like the Kain character in Final Fantasy II. Does anyone remember the even older X-men that was all about Kitty Pryde joining? I think it was on the same show that broadcast Dino-Riders and Robocops.

I saw the commercial for the littles. that really surprised me and it's not even like they redid the show. It's the old episodes.
I hated Schoolhouse Rock. shudder.
I have almost the entire X-Men series on my computer and am scheduled to get the rest soon. It's such a great show. Morph was in the comics, I believe, for a little while but was killed off there too.

Morph was loosely based on a character from the comics called "the Mimic" as far as I can tell. The Mimic was able to copy any other mutant's powers, and was "killed off" waaaay back before I got into comics. A year or so after Morph was introduced on the X-Men cartoon, there was a story in the comics called "Age of Apocalypse." It was a what-if type tale based on the premise of what if Professor Xavier had been killed before he ever founded the X-Men. Apocalypse takes over the world, and Eric Lensherr, otherwise known as Magneto, leads the modern-day X-Men in this alternate world. Morph was a character in this alternate-reality version of the X-Men. I don't know if he's made any other appearances besides this.

The Teen Titans were comic book characters for a long time before the show, since at least the early eighties. I never got into the series (always favored Marvel over D.C. comics). I think it's a mix of characters that already existed and characters that were just made up for the show. I hate the current cartoon though. The characters all look like they're from "Pokemon." It's bastardized anime.
In my opinion anime is a legitimate art style, but too many times you see it way overdone. "Anime" can refer to a huge spectrum of different styles, not just drawing people's open mouths bigger than their face, or their eyebrows floating above their heads. Seems pretty funny to me that most American animation studios try to emulate this these days, when supposedly the whole "manga" style resulted from nothing more than Japanese animators trying to copy the "large-eyed" Disney characters from the 1940's and '50's.

I absolutely cannot believe I never heard of this comic before. I mean, I thought I had at least heard of it before but none of the characters were familiar (again, except robin). In any event, I see what you mean about bastardized manga and yet I still like it. I don't, however, see any similarities to Pokemon. I'm not sure why I like it . . . maybe I'm getting soft in my old age.

Old age? Damn, you 22 already, old man?
I guess the similarities that it shares with Pokemon might not be as significant as I imagined, but the show does share Pokemon's propensity for horribly outrageous facial expressions. And, I have sat through one or two episodes, and the plot isn't nearly as inane as Pokemon. Not quite.
I thought that Batman: the Animated Series was a high point of 2D animation.
I saw one of the old episodes of the animated X-Men. This one had Kitty Pryde, Nightcrawler, Colossus, and some other characters who never appeared on the series discussed in this thread. Wolverine was in it, but he was AUSTRALIAN! What a horrible oversight for some careless editor to let by. (Not that I have anything against Australians, but Wolverine is, like the brand of bottled water, clearly Canadian.)

I remember the old X-men. Have a few eps of it on tape along with Namor. I think X-Men evolution sucks as does Batman Beyond. What's with all the skinny guys?
A side note: I remember when Clearly Canadian was a bit of a fad growing up. my sister used to drink it all the time and I thought it was some hoity toity beverage:) She made a big deal about going down to the corner store for some Clearly Canadian.

Do you get cable at the dispatch office? Cause IFC does "Samurai Saturdays". "Samurai 3" was on yesterday (and plays Sun. at 8 AM EST too ): IFCtv "Toshiro Mifune portrays Japan's legendary 17th-century swordsman, Musashi Miyamoto, in this monumental samurai trilogy. Dir: Hiroshi Inagaki."
Sorry, I don't know what to tell you as far as cartoons. They used to be good, and there used to be Saturday cartoons, when I was young, or even when my siblings were young, but something horrible happened. They even censor or flat-out don't play most of the Bugs Bunny cartoons I grew up with. You just can't beat Looney Tunes with a stick.

I remember an episode of Looney Tunes where Bugs Bunny was conducting an orchestra. Someone in the audience kept coughing, and after several repeated attempts to shush the fellow Bugs Bunny proceeded to pull a revolver out of nowhere and shot the guy. Seriously. They would never show anything like that on kid's TV nowadays. That was awesome.

I used to love saturday mornings, the Smurfs especially, yesterday I decided to have an old fashioned saturday so I watched tv in my pajamas on a sleeping bag on the couch eating Cracker Jacks (and getting really doped up) and I watched "Fairly Odd Parents" for the 1st time- I liked it a lot. Timmy's old dead hamster came back to life and tried to kill him and his parents. Then I watched Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius- it sucked, it was trying to hard to be clever. Still it was a fun day and I'll have to do it soon. |

HAAAAAAHAAHAA, I remember that episode glaish. Loony Tunes were great. Why are the called "Tunes"???
We get cable in the office but I don't think we get IFC, but I'll look for it cause that would be super cool.
How old are you jimmy? That's a great idea.

Wow. I didn't expect this result at all. I'm not sure whether to be ashamed or proud:
53.38164% - Super Music Nerd
"Shazam!"
Oh, and if they ever would play Invader Zim cartoons again, especially Saturday mornings, I'll be all over that.
Adult Swim rocks, but that's super late at night on Sunday, which doesn't help your situation much, realmean. Crap.
