I cannae wait for the extended version of the Return Of The King...as well as the 7- minute Saruman scene, there should be the mouth of Sauron, houses of healing, Gandalf confronting the Witch King and maybe also Aragorn looking into the Panantir scenes....it could be an hour or so longer! By the way, did anayone watch the Two Towers S.E.E extra? They based Gollum's body and movements on Iggy Pop and his energetic live performances! Iggollyum!

Yeah, extended versions are the only REAL versions, as far as I'm concerned. And I was really really disappointed with some of the very crucial elements they left out of ROTK.

namely:

1) Gandalf confronting the Witch King of Morgoth
2) Gandalf/the armies confronting the Mouth of Sauron (his main general) at the Black Gates (that was an AWESOME part in the books...the only time when you notice even Gandalf's resolve almost shatter in the face of such messed up odds. Of course, they then proceed to turn it all around and kick ass)
3) the Scouring of the Shire!!! How could you NOT let people know what happens to SARUMAN??? it's, like, such a huge part of the book.

Anyway, I have vented my steam. There are more nit-picks that I had but I'll end this here before I start sounding like some fanboy loser.

They decided not to include the Scouring early on in the production;they definetly filmed the Mouth of Sauron scene, and I was suprized it did'nt make it into the theatrical vers. Also, I think they filmed the Gandalf/Witch King encounter...and the Houses of Healing is sure to appear in the extended cut.

I've heard the extended cut is 4h 10mins, so it should have plenty of tasty extras.

Yee-haw. I bought the Two Towers extended edition today and am looking forward to geeking out with it over the next few days.

I too was way bummed that they cut out the scouring of the Shire. It seems important that, after being passively embroiled in the battles of men that the hobbits should finally be seen actively defending their own lands. Call me an old fogey.

They had to use C.G.I for some of the arrows, because Legolas shoots so fast!

Yah'll are a bunch of geeks! Haha. I did harshly bash LOTR in the other thread. I was kidding for the most part. I certainly don't think the stories are horrible and Jackson is a good director, but I honestly just haven't had any interest in these movies since they came out. I saw portions of the first one and I enjoyed what I saw, but it wasn't anything that really sucked me in or that I can see myself geeking out on. I suppose I just don't get into the fantasy stories all that much anymore.

I felt the same way for a long time, TarTar. I saw Fellowship and wasn't too impressed (not taht it wasn't well done, but that entire book/movie is basically setting up the events of the other two), but then a friend talked me into watchign the Two Towers one night right after it came out on DVD, and HOLY SHIT I was hooked! and ROTK was even better

I think the scouring of the shire being dropped was OK in the movies. The ending seemed drawn out as it is (though this is in part due to Jackson's poor choices cutting between final scenes).

Gandalf's with the witch king was probably dropped to play up Eowyn's importance but this was the one part I was REALLY looking forward to. Eowyn did a hell of a job and got to deliver that "I'm no man" line which had the theatre cheering, but Gandalf!! Come on!

And I agree, leaving Saruman to the trees seems pretty weak. And I am a geek. Definitely.
