If there was a bridge or tunnel connecting Europe to America (or that other country - above the US) I wonder what the speed limit would be. And when would it switch over from miles to kilometers? Indeed, the USA is ripe for a fall... what country are you suggesting is taking over the US, Mikey?
Imperial units are so arbitrary and have no link to each other. With metric, besides being base 10 which is a nice convenience, is scalable and interrelated. 1 mile = how many yards? Oh yeah, 1760. 1 kilometre = how many metres? 1000. Who the hell thinks measuring things in terms of a human foot or hand thinks these units are sensical. 32F = freezing point of water, 212F (?) = boiling point. OK. That makes sense. Sure.
The originators of the system (the English) have been very successful at moving away from their arcane measurement system and indeed, the US is the only one in the world to be stuck in the stone age in this regard. I suppose it just goes to show that far too many people have trouble counting to 10. :)
