Also, some of the Pink Panther movies...and the first Austin Powers, while flawed, has some classic moments, particularly Dr.EVIL. "Threw me a beun!" A couple of 'unintentional' comedy classics...The Swarm(love that giant, halucinatory bee!),Rambo 3(in fact, all the Rambos for that matter). Richard Crenna:"You've got to come full circle, John." Stallone:BLANK STARE. |

The funniest film I've ever seen is called The Species 2 (or something like that, it was La Mutante 2 in French). A story about an alien who makes you become really horny and than kills the person you are fucking. A masterpiece, really.

Otherwise, a very good "serious" comedy would be The Big Lebowski. How come nobody mentioned it?

Yeah, the first one was crap. Patrick Stewart and Michael Madsen were in it. |

Oh yeah, I forgot...The Man with Two Brains is great. As for funny 'serious movies'...yeah Titanic is pretty over the top...I mean,'a love story'? It was a disaster, for crying out loud! |

Yeah, The Producers is great...and Anderson's movies are often funny. Adaptation is amusing enough. |

These are, for the most part, very funny movies, but What About Bob? is the best comedy of our lifetime. |

AMERICAN MOVIE. You all must seek this film out. It's a documentary about some guy in northern Michigan who's dream is to make a full length feature horror film. It's all true, they just follow this guy around while he makes his film.

The Corndog Man - Funniest movie ever! (Indie flick, serious but funny at the same time. Probably ebay only) Dirty Work - stupid premise, hilarious jokes (goofy comedy. Own it on tape watch it all the time) Sorority Boys - one of the funnier new movies I've seen lately.(goofy comedy) Ghost World - just all around awesome! (Must see)

Yeah - that is a good and funny movie - I love those guys. They do what Kevin Smith films fail to and more, IMHO. They are super-real. We bought "Coven" when they first released it. Much respect.
I'm afraid to start a list of my favorite comedies, there are too many. One day, I want to cover "Young Frankenstein"'s version of "Puttin on the Ritz", with a Herbie Hancock twist.
My ultimate goal in life: be a one-hit wonder on Dr. Demento.

I forgot ROYAL TENNEBAUMS - which is kind of a dramedy, but has hysterical parts amongst the sad. I always have to rewind the part with Gene Hackman and Ben Stiller in the closet cause it makes me laugh so much. Owen Wilson is also very funny and I love when Bill Murray says "how interesting - how BIZARRE". Hee.
Also love THE THREE AMIGOS (viva The Singing Bush!) and the afore mentioned THE JERK. What happened to Steve Martin and his SMART movies? I read this thing recently which was supposed to be a letter from Bill Murray to Steve Martin - it said something like "I'm enjoying doing some great work with directors like Wes Anderson and Sofia Coppola. I am having the best time of my career. So how's your movie career going?"

Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, world is and old time favorite of mine. I work for Amtrak and Jonathan Winters takes my train quite a bit. The guys a riot! Real quick witted. He doesn't like to fly so he's usually on the train around the holidays. Have you seen Rat Race? It's a remake. Doesn't compare, but not bad.

Dumb and dumber is great, as well as any early Jim Carrey stuff. Like ACE VENTURA 1&2! After The Mask he's been only incidentally funny. Couple of scenes in Liar Liar, Bruce Almighty, etc. A great comedian is lost.
The Big Lebowski is one of the greatest films ever in my opinion, great comedy but also good storyline, characters, lines, etc. Hail to the Coen brothers!! Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? is very funny as well I think (especially the underwater scene with Dapper Dan hair pomade cans is hilarious!). Anybody seen Intolerable Cruelty? Found it ok, not great though (saw it only once).

Army of Darkness, Bringing Up Baby, After Hours (very dark comedy), Flirting With Disaster, Go, the music videos section of Pavement's Slow Century DVD (some very fun and funny videos that band had).

How could I forget? DUCK SOUP is an all-time favorite, right up-there...the Marx Brothers were way ahead of their time. That movie is vey smart, packed with witty jokes...and the musical moments-which are in themselves fairly amusing-are kept to a minimum. Monkey Business is another great comedy...Dumb and Dumber, I was surprizingly amused at...oh, and of course, the Naked Guns...Police Squad! is one of the funniest comedy shows ever. Was watching Bad Taste last night, very funny...the Evil Deads are definetely humour-orientated("Gimme some sugar, baby!"). I agree with TarTar, Pavement's videos are pretty funny......
