Yeah it took me a bit longer to 'get into' than the Soft Bulletin, but now I'm loving it, especially "yoshimi pt I", "all we have is now" and "do you realise". Top album. |

i'm digging it. i didn't think they'd be able to top The Soft Bulletin, which i don't think they did. but i think they matched it.
"do you realize?" gave me the chills the first time i heard it.. and i dig "it's summertime", "fight test" and of course "yoshimi battles the pink robots"..
speaking of Flaming lips.. i had this thought the other day about how, despite their one hit from the mid-90's, they've pretty much been a cult band since inception. but now, they're getting all this attention.. which, i do think they deserve completely. they're work has suddenly matured and instead of being this kind of experimental novelty band, they're actually also making some very serious, poignant music.
my point is, isn't it possible that Frank could suddenly gain widespread attention once again. not that i want that (or don't want that for him).. but just theorizing.. if the planets alligned in a certain way, and suddenly audiences became more intellient..
i just think it's funny that Flaming Lips are so huge now, thinking about where they've always been.
saw them for the last tour and it was one of the best shows i've ever seen.. hope i can get tickets for the Beck thing, but then i hate going to huge venues..

has anyone here actually heard Zaireeka??? i mean the weird experimental 4-cd thing that they did? i've only got 4 of their albums, hit to death in the future head, clouds taste metallic, soft bulletin and yoshimi, they're all great, particularly hit to death and soft bulletin. Must admit i've only got into them this year, but i'm already a big fan and i'd rate them second only to frank....so anyone who has zaireeka, i've heard conflicting reports thats it's terrible and excellent...can anyone clarify? |

I've only been able to listen a couple times..but my impression was 'very strange'. Relative to the Lips of course.
Can you give it a listen in a record shop?

YvPR is super good music. I saw them play at Amoeba in hollywood - they played a snippet from the cd, then performed the song. Made for a unique experience. Then they covered that last Kylie Minogue single - sounded great! "Do You Realize" I think is a single now, the vinyl is very pretty to look at - Aaron's has it, if you live in l.a.
I am in love with the sound of their bass, though. What a ride...!
