I've only listened to some of it. I've been heavy into Grandaddy (my first album of theirs) and some other stuff so I haven't given Paley a good enough spin. The first 6 songs are just him and a guitar so I'll assume the whole album is like that.
I'll report back when I have listened to it all. From what I've heard it's pretty good.

I also saw Reid Paley when he was opening for the Catholics. That was in 1999 I think. This was the same leg of the tour that the Bennies played on.

I bought both of the "ON" albums, "Shifting Skin" and "Make Believe." They are both excellent. Me and my wife both bought the new Outkast album. In the near future I will have to re-buy my copy of "Show Me Your Tears" as my old one got broken completely in half during my recent move to Knoxville.
Take me, break me, tell me a good one and maybe I'll cry

Knoxville, home of the World Trades Fair Tower? Don't worry, I think we've been through this before.

Crispy, how can you not like Sparks? If its the same band, of course, with the guy with the Hitler moustache and "this town ain't big enough for the both of us"
There's definitely a guy with a funky 'stache. The disc isn't awful or anything, it's just not at all what I was expecting. To be honest, I had it playing in the next room while watching a hockey game, and I only really paid attention to a couple of songs. The lyric sheet, though, is truly great. That's what got me to buy it. I'll give it another spin over the weekend or something in an effort to let it grow on me. I think it must be the same band, but I don't get the "this town ain't..." reference. Did they have a hit or something?

Yeah, it was their moment in the sun. They musta been, ooh, late 70's ish electro-pop, American if I remember right. They were on Never Mind The Buzzcocks (comedy music quiz) recently, and the stachio'd one just sat silent for the most of it, occasionally coming up with completely random and bizarre expressions. Wacky, but humourous.

Some of his stuff is Tom Waitsy, but mostly just the voice he does. It's not the smoothest thing you'll hear. But I haven't heard any songs of his that break my heart and make me cry like Tom Waits.
Reid Paley seems more like a guy that would play some blues tunes at 2 AM in a random bar. Though I guess Tom Waits has a good number of songs that could do that too.
And yeah, it was the Pistolero I think.

Well, this sure isn't from the late '70s. There's no date given, but everything about the packaging reeks of mid-'90s. They sing with British accents that sound fake sometimes, but they could be American. Being on a show called Never Mind the Buzzcocks sounds pretty British to me. It says their fan club is based in L.A. and their management is based in London, whatever that might mean. Truth be told, I don't care where they're from, but I would like to learn more about them. The writing is credited to two (presumable) brothers, Ron & Russell Mael. Beyond that, I know nothing...time to check the rest of the internet.
