Anyone listen to Outkast enough to discuss which one of these releases are better. I am partial to Stankinia as a whole. Discuss... |

Stankonia is a better all around album...HOWEVER...if you took the best tracks from each disc of SB/TLB you'd get a damn fine album...possibly better
GoddessTheory, let me just say - a theology major, an OutKast fan - you are quickly becoming one of my favorite boardies

That's me blushing. My head is not that round, though and my eyes aren't that beady...till after exams.
Either Outkast were brilliant by taking the time now to try something different when they KNEW they were guaranteed success with their latest offering after STANKONIA so all the Johnny-come-Leately critics would get onboard OR they reached their zenith with STANKONIA and we are now witnessing the flow of their ebb. Each consecutive album will become more and more formulaic.
My opinion matches yours about cutting the album down, but then again, I think they're output is stronger when they really collaborate and not split themselves. But as I said, they might have just taken this album to do that because they knew it'd be successful no matter what.
As for me being a Theology major and an Outkast fan, I can show you the correlation between the two:
I am interested in the search for perfection which I think ultimately is the point of life, of evolution. Some people when they are creative almost touch perfection. People who pervert creativity will never progress and they won't cause anyone to progress or want to.
Outkast are just one collective that I believe actually have hit that creative spark that moves people towards perfection.
This is not a very good explanation, but it's all the philosphy that I could lay on you in the amount of time it takes to respond to this.
I could go on for hours, that's why I chose the line of ed I did I think.
Someday we'll have a nice big long conversation about it. |

Dre3K is the Prince of this generation.
I like Stankonia a little better. B.O.B. is, well, the bomb. |

ATLiens is a fantastic record. That's Outkast at their peak. Better than stankonia imo, haven't heard the new stuff, not even hey ya.

Hmm, ATLiens, yes, I see...still have to go with STANKONIA. It has Erykah Badu on it! |

Hey Ya! really surprised me for what it was...I actually downloaded it and enjoyed it for a while but now I cannot stand it. It's too...formulaic. It doesn't go anywhere. It's a great accomplishment though, to actually get me interested in that sorta music. I really enjoy "The Whole World" though.

I had a similar experience, El Barto. I've found that without the videos, there isn't enough to keep me interested past the admittedly very sweet and creative hooks. I keep finding myself wishing there were more depth in the songs. I think for me it's that counter-harmony on the casio-type synth that really grabs me in "Hey Ya". I like Erykah Badu (great lady), so I think I'm going to need to hear the whole album.
So far, what I know of them, I respect them, way way more than the vast majority of artists on the billboard charts. I'll give the rest some more time.... I want to believe.
