This is only slightly off subject, but...has anyone ever heard anything to the effect that David Lynch tried to get "Ana" from Bossanova for Lost Highway, but couldn't acquire the rights to do so?

He replaced "Ana" by "Eye" (Smashing Pumpkins).

where did you hear that? i've never heard that.
i don't know why David Lynch couldn't get the rights to a Pixies song when so many other directors do. certainly Charles would sign off on one of his songs going to a David Lynch film.. and they can't be that expensive (less expensive than a Smashing Pumpkins song i'm sure). |

But maybe Charles was not informed of the request. If he does not own the publishing on the song, it might have never gotten to him because they couldn't agree on a price.
Just a theory.
That sucks though. You'd think DL would want to do a movie entirely with Angelo Badalementi and The Pixies music. Such a good fit. |

I don't think the price of the song is really important. You know, David Lynch is not a 100% rational guy.

actually, from what i've heard he sounds like a very rational guy. eccentric, but rational. i've heard that they (he and his wife) are pretty thrifty when it comes to producing their films and saving money..
not to say that's what happened (if this story is true - adnan, you never mentioned where you heard this..).. with any song, the record company AND the artist have to sign off. even if Frank doesn'n own the recording rights for those Pixies songs, he still owns the song rights, and he'd have to sign off.. it must have been a 4AD issue, or price, or who knows.. |

I actually saw a making-of thing before it came out, and it shows that scene, or them filming it, with 'Ana' playing in the background...I heard somewhere there was a copyright thing, or something. |
