| I first met Charles at a gig in Leicester, England, last year. I live on the Isle of Wight, but I know the bloke who runs The Charlotte (the venue in Leicester about 200 miles north), so I called him up and asked if I could get in early, to see the sound check (having already bought a ticket on the internet - I'd never skank the king). I got there, got let in, watched the sound check (I think they did Llano Del Rio & Hermaphroditos), then rather nervously inroduced myself. He was really friendly; he shook my hand, and we chatted for a few moments about the Isle of Wight and it's rock festivals (Hendrix's last gig, etc, etc,..). He then posed for a photo with me, which I've since blown up to A3 and framed (along with his plectrum from the gig, and the signed ticket). Two days later, I went to see FB in Portsmouth, and in accordance with good advice posted on this forum, I waited until he wasn't lugging a two-ton speaker cab before saying 'Hi'. To my unbridled joy, he remembered me ("Oh yeah! The Isle of Wight guy!"). Again we spoke briefly about the tour, and he came across as a genuinely top bloke. Charles rocks! |
