Although I'd rather see a link to the song next to each person that has already gone, I think it is time to move on also.

Okay, I thought of one that's easily accessible on the internet, and while I'm tracking it down you can chomp on the fact that this little project has officially accomplished something: I now own the Evergreen CD, and I am very glad for the fact, so a thank you to those involved and anyone else willing to take a chance.

Here it is. The song is called "Like a Ghost on Fire," performed by Mike Watt, Thurston Moore, and Thalia Ferreira. It's lifted from the corndogs.org website, which has a lot of otherwise unavailable Mike Watt-related recordings.
Here's what the man himself says about the tune:
"this tune was recorded in response to a challenge from some cat who said he'd give out a title and see what I would write to it. supposed to be on a comp with other tunes done the same way."
So yeah, it was written by Mike Watt, I guess credit it to him.

Hopefully you get something from it. If not, at least I did.

Maybe it was too late at night or something...this slipped to the second page of topics, and if I went to the trouble of picking a song I guess I should also go to the trouble of making sure the rest of you notice.

Hey, that's very cool, Crispy. Glad you like it.
As for your offering, I'm diggin' it. Reminds me of the feeling I get from Hal Hartley soundtracks (generally the good old stuff from Matador records). Has a good dose of My Bloody Valentine vibe, I also like the vocals, and it's super-rare that a female vocalist doesn't get on my nerves. She reminds me of the singer for an old band called "Hex" with Steve Kilbey from The Church and oh! dammit, what's her name? ok, did a google - Donnette Thayer. Actually, Hex is kind of similar, come to think of it....weird. Here's a link if it's relevant to anybody: Hex
Thurston Moore is a hall-of-famer in my book, I'm not nearly as familiar with Mike Watt, but this is a neat side-spawn mutant. Time to dig through corndog.org, it seems. Thanks!

Yeah this project prompted me to go get Mclusky Do Dallas as for "Like A Ghost On Fire", I'd have to agree that does seem to have quite a My Bloody Valentine thing going, on first listen I'm not digging it much but I'll give it another listen in a bit.

Right Im back on track I've downloaded it and well its definately not my thing at all. Its stuff that they have on late night mtv2, Im not a fan of this kind of stuff. I have nothing good to say about it. I doubt I could like it however many times I listened to it.
Now I must download the rest.

I like the vocals. Reminds me of the Aislers Set.
If he dropped the squeely sound effects this would be much better.
It's like they're going for some artsy/tongue-in-cheek acid jazz thang, but don't quite pull it off.

This would not turn me onto Mike Watt.
-
My mp3 player sorted this song into my playlist just before B. Pollard's "I've Owned You For Centuries" which, simply by, like, proximity, makes it better.

This really feels like it goes nowhere, and I think the "squeely sound effects" could have been used more sparingly. The times it cuts out are the parts I enjoy the most. She has a very pleasant voice, and Mr. Watt does some nice, bouncy bass work, so overall, it's not bad, but probably wouldn't be in regular rotation in my mp3 player. |

This thing seems to have died. Disappointing that so few people have listened to it.
