Upon recently falling in love with early Roxy Music (thanks to Frank's cover of Remake/Remodel), im inclined yet again to ask what Fall records to seek out. I've heard some are terrible, and some are genious. I don't really like any new music but I'm amazed at how many bands that are twenty years old that I keep finding and loving. This early Roxy stuff reminds me of The Mighty Ubu (who are pure bliss).

I alway's thought that 1993's The Infotainment Scan
was a great Fall record.
If you like music from that period check
out my band at www.pinkysalute.com
We even have a Roxy Music Cover that
you can download for free.
I have been trying to get people on
the forum to tell me what they think.

Aaaaaanyway. I heard my first fall song the other day. I liked it. The video involded weird dancers while the band played and the guy sang with a microphone in his hand. It was very very pavementy (Im aware its the other way round). The title involved the word queen or somethin along those lines. Any ideas, anyone?

"Hex Enduction Hour" is a pretty cool record, though I must admit I haven't heard all of it, just the tracks that appear on the "Hips Priests" compilation of the few albums and singles that the Fall had on the Kamera label, but about 80% of the songs from "Hex Enduction Hour" are on that. The A-Sides "Best of" compilation is pretty good, but I don't think the music of The Fall translates well to a "best of" that spans so many years. Plus, A-Sides focuses on the less fucked up side of The Fall, and the fucked up side of The Fall is a key component in what makes them The Fall. I also have the Legendary Chaos tape which is a lot of fun but not recommended as a starting point.

Alcohol or pot? VHS or Beta? Man or Astro-man?

I saw the Fall play live a few weeks back. Brilliant show, but I couldn't believe how old Mark E Smith looks - he's 46 or something but looks about 70. Must be the lifestyle...

What's the relation between Roxy Music and The Fall? I don't understand.

No one have any idea then
Maybe the title doesnt have the word queen. But he repeats the same line over and over towards the end.

He had a teeny part in "24 Hour Party People"

You're right. He looked like an old, mangy bouncer.

Didn't recognize him.

The song you are trying to think
of is called NEW BIG PRINZ.

The ballet dancers were a famous avant-garde
company led by Michael Clarke.
It was supposed to be arty, but it just comes
off kind of silly.
One of my favorite songs of all time though.
It is off of 1988's I Am Kurious Oranj.
Not a strong album, but a few really good songs

The Fall are tied with Pixies/FB for my all time favorite band. I have all their albums.

I actually would recommend their most recent album The Real New Fall LP, as it's probably in their top 5 best (an incredible feat for a band who has put out one to two albums a year since 1979)

Alas, here are the great Fall albums

Dragnet (re-release jan 26)
Grotesque (After the Gramme)
Slates/A Part of American Therein
Hex Enduction Hour
Perverted by Language
This Nation's Saving Grace
Palace of Swords Reversed
Infotaiment Scan
Light User Syndrome
Levitate
Unutterable

That said, about 85% of Fall albums are very much exellent.

I'm surprised how good the new album is. I had almost given up on them after Scanlon and Hanley left, but MES has somehow pulled it off YET AGAIN.

Yeah the only thing predictable about The Fall is that if you're ever dissapointed/about to give up on them with a release, the next one will be one of their very best.

I am very pleased with myself, collector-wise, for owning the original Slates 10". Is this even rare? I've never seen it anywhere since. Minute for minute, it's probably the purest expression of what was great about them in their 'seminal' incarnation. But let's turn this thread over to CAN as well - anybody have the new Can DVD? FUCKIN WOW!!! Expensive as all fuck but it's absolutely worth it. I've always wanted to know this much about them, and now I do. Damo Suzuki, kickin' it Jagger-style, in a velvet bodysuit? Priceless.

I have the Slates 10". What an incredible record. It's true, though, you don't see many of the Rough Trade pressings in the US anymore.

I know this is slightly off-topic but Interloper did mention it in his original post...have many people here heard the early Roxy Music albums? I personally am thinking of 'Country Life' and 'Stranded'...these albums are truly fanfuckingtastic.

Sonic Youth did an entire Peel session of Fall songs. Victoria was one of them-- so they were really covering a cover.
