I have been very lazy and haven't posted any new threads for a while. (still smarting after you all ignored my awesome limerick thread).

Anyway, how about an architectural related thread? I work in the construction industry and enjoy the built environment. There are some amazing buildings scattered throughout the world (new and old). Share them with us.

I'll start with Lincoln Cathedral which is about 1 mile from where I am sitting at the moment. A phenomenal structure. It's 900 years old and still going strong.

This is Winchester Cathedral, in my home town:

PS, if you're ever in Winch in the summer, buy a takeaway pint from the Old Vine and sit in the grounds pictured, its the best way to spend an afternoon ever.
This ones a little different:

The Fishrocket, aka 30 St Mary Axe, the Swiss Re tower.

I always thought Frank Lloyd Wright was pretty cool:

But Gaudi is probably my favourite:

Hello my friends. Because I love you all (it's not your fault you are English) I will show you these wonderful pictures of the place where I spent Christmas: the Ice Hotel in Sweden (well, I didn't sleep inside, it was too expensive). It is way more beautiful inside so here is one picture from the inside and another from the outside (looks like the interior of somewhere in Siberia).

The thing is, the hotel melts in the spring, and they have to rebuild it entirely each november.... so it is never the same.

Hey, Adnan, is there a web address for this? I've read about it before and would love to go and stay there.

Oh you're Welsh !
OK then, it's simply icehotel.com

Spending a night in the hotel is quite expensive (and - 5 degrees) but you can always stay at Kiruna which is a town nearby, or rent a chalet 100m from the hotel. The temperature was - 40 when I was there, so you better bring your scarf !

how about my old home town, Stockport, we have the viaduct, was the biggest brick structure in europe or something at one time, not sure what it is now...

erm, that's it... it's quite impressive when you stand under it...

I'm flat out, you're so beautiful to look at when you cry. Freeze, don't move, you've been chosen as an extra in the movie adaptation of the sequal to your life. Shady Lane, everybody wants one, Shady Lane, everybody needs one.

this building is right down the street from me

it's a Frank Gehry, who also did the Walt Disney Concert Hall which opened last year here in LA, and many other amazing buildings which i can't find pictures of right now (including the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, featured above, which i was lucky to see)

Now this is the stupiddest building I have ever seen...the architect must have been on an LSD trip for a while, together with his financial sponsor.

well now for some toilet humour....
this is a public toilet in Kawakawa, New Zealand.
it is a bugger to get any good pictures of, so this'll have to do.

it was desinged by Freidrich Hundertwasser - a rather famous wee fella.
and it won quite a few awards in new zealand a couple of years ago.

I've always loved the Bradbury Building. It's on Broadway (and 3rd, I think) in downtown LA. It's been used in countless films and TV shows.

In Poland, the Wieliczka Salt Mine, (which was under careful consideration for our elopement). It's over 700 years old, with underground chapels, lakes, statues, murals, banquet halls, shops, restaurant, a post office, and more - everything is carved from the salt. Even the chandeliers. It is still working as a mine now, I believe.... http://www.kopalnia-wieliczka.pl/english/
